"Yeah? Well maybe the catwashis grandfather's."
This made her frown. "Whose side are you on, anyway?"
"Yours."
"Well, you have a funny way of showing it."
"What, you want a yes man? Sorry, but that's not me."
Her gaze narrowed. "You don'tlooksorry."
"Hey, I'm sorry if you're upset, but I'm not gonna lie. I think you're getting worked up for nothing."
This made her sputter. "Worked up?"
She was cute when she was flustered. Even so, I didn't like to see her in distress. "You remember the guy who called his wife a pig, right?"
"Yeah, but hedidn'tcall her a pig."
I grinned. "Exactly."
Her jaw dropped. "But—"
"Andhe didn't call her a slob either. It just sounded that way." I paused for emphasis. "Toyou."
"What are you saying? That I always assume the worst?"
"I never said always."
"Okay, fine.Mostof the time?"
"Hey, if the pig oinks…"
"But thereisno pig."
I said it again. "Exactly. So tell me. When you get the picture of this big jackass, what are you gonna do with it?"
"Well, obviouslyI'm gonna show it to Gwen so she can be careful."
I smiled. "Assuming it's the same guy."
"Which itwillbe."
"If you say so. So when are you expecting it?"
"Idosay so." She reached out and plucked the tag from my hand. "But to answer your question, I should be getting the picture soon. I mean, I didn't tell my aunt that it was urgent, because I didn't want her to worry, but if I don't get the it within the next few days, I'll definitely follow up."
I tabledthattopic and moved to the next. "And you said something about your sister?"
"Yeah, well…basically, it's the same issue, except in Lexie's case, she's sneaking around with her old boss."
"And that's a problem?"
"Yeah, abigone," Harper said. "The guy practically fired her. And we're almost positive that he's been giving her bad references."
"Almostpositive?"
"Yeah, well…she's had all these interviews that never panned out – even ones where she was practically promised the job.Someone'sblackballing her. Who else would it be? And now, the guy's living right across the street from us, which means that Lexie sees him all the time." Harper sighed. "Who knows? Maybe she didn't stand a chance."
