Oh, man. What should I say tothat?
For turning a simple hug into a makeout session?
For the fact that I might've been moaning just a little?
Or…for the thing I wanted to do next?
On the upside, I was pretty sure I hadn't grabbed his ass – not because I hadn't wanted to, but because both of us had been sitting.
See? I could look on the positive side.
In the end, I replied, "Well…I guess because I sort of threw myself at you."
"Trust me," he said. "I'm not complaining." He glanced toward the parking lot. "And if you're worried about the applause, that was probably for you smashing the drive-through."
This seemed incredibly unlikely. And yet, it was such a comforting lie that I wanted to believe it.
But it wasn't the only thing I wanted.
I wanted to be naked and rolling in the sheets. I wanted to grab Bryce's tight ass and feel him grabbing mine in return. I wanted to feel our bodies moving as one and to see if this total hottie made love as good as he looked.
About all of these things, I knew I should stay quiet. But as usual, my mouth got the better of me, and a bold suggestion tumbled from my lips. "Just so you know, you could invite me over."
He smiled. "Yeah?"
"Definitely." I blew out a long, trembling breath. "For coffee. Or whatever." I glanced toward the nearby fence, the one that separated this property from my own house. "So…which bedroom are you staying in?"
Chapter 19
Bryce
In the now-silent machine, Harper's words lingered between us – not a question, but an invitation.
It was unexpected, but not unwelcome. I felt a slow smile spread across my face.Talk about Christmas coming early.
Her skin was flushed, and her lips were parted. Her borrowed hard hat had fallen away to who-knows-where, and her fiery red hair was a tousled frame to her captivating face.
As far as the missing hard hat, I might've heard a clunk when we were kissing, but I'd hardly noticed at the time. I'd been far too busy noticing the feel of her lips and the scent of her skin – vanilla and spice with a hint of peppermint.
She smelled like Christmas and candy and everything I loved about this time of year.
But it wasn't the Christmassy scent that was pulling me in.It was the woman herself.
I liked her more than I should've considering our short acquaintance. But this shouldn't have been a surprise. With her quick mind and smart mouth, she'd caught my interest from the start.
I was still smiling. "So 'coffee', huh?"
"Or whatever." She gave a trembling laugh. "Unless you think I'm being totally weird. I mean, here you are, doing me a favor, and hereIam, trying to drag you off to bed."
"Draggingme?" I said. "How do you know it's not the other way around?"
"Yeah, right." Her eyes narrowed. "Wait, does this happen to you a lot? I bet it does…you know, with your abs and all."
I laughed. "Again with the abs?"
"Hey, it's notmyfault," she said. "You were totally showing them off on the day we met."
I didn't recall doing such a thing, but hey, I'd take her word for it. "You know what this means, don't you?"
