You will not die, I told her as I fell to my knees in the dirt beside her. Blood spilled over the hands she pressed against her abdomen. The coppery tang hung heavy in the air.

Ohgods. There was so much blood.

Chapter 89

Electra

I’d never been shot before. I’d known that it would hurt. But this was way worse than I had expected. I was panting against the pain, hands covering my abdomen as my warm blood spilled over my fingers.

It hurts.

I could feel that Bastien was close but I couldn’t see him. Where was he? I needed to see him.

More energy flooded the bond. This time I didn’t even need to call it into my body. Instead, it settled in my abdomen. My back arched at the new spike of pain when the energy touched my wound.

I heard a large body land beside me.You will not die.

A new sensation began to pulse in my body, centred on the place where I’d been shot. Warmth. Soothing and healing. No more blood spilled over my fingers.

Opening my eyes, I looked up into the eyes of my mate. He was frowning, mouth turned down, eyes blazing with strong emotion.

“So bossy.”

He didn’t smile. Behind him, the chopper started to lift off. Gunshots sounded in the air. Bastien flinched but gave no other sign that he’d been hit.

“Your magic is healing me?” My voice was a whisper.

Is it working? His eyes roved over my wound, one hand hovering over my abdomen as if he was frightened to touch me.

“I think so. It doesn’t hurt anymore and I think the bleeding’s stopped.”

“Thank fuck. I’m going to pick you up and carry you to our car.”

“No!” Bastien reared back in shock at the vehemence in my tone but we didn’t have time for me to dance around this. There was something I needed him to do, before it was too late. “I’m stable and help will be here soon. I need you to kill Veder for me.”

Bastien’s head swivelled, looking back at the chopper as if he’d forgotten about the men who were escaping.

Do it for me, I urged. As a mating gift.

Anything my baby wants.

And then I watched as the Beast ran, getting up speed until his large body blurred. I kept watching as, like a superhero, he jumped into the sky.

The residual power in my body made it easy to see, despite the dark night, as one muscled arm grabbed one of the skids. With brute strength he pulled himself up and launched his body into the cabin.

“Electra!”

I kept my eyes on the chopper as Caly and Simon ran up to me.

“Oh gods, you’ve been shot,” sobbed Caly.

“I’m alright,” I said, glancing over to her briefly before I flicked my gaze back to the chopper.

“You need the hospital,” Simon said. “Where’s Bastien?”

“Honestly, I don’t.” The pain from my wound was almost gone now and the warmth that signalled the healing energy was slowly beginning to dissipate. “Bastien shared his energy and it helped me to heal.”

Simon’s eyes rose to his hairline and he bent down beside me. “Would you mind if I have a look? I’ve never heard of anything like that happening. I didn’t know it was possible.”
