“Go. Away,” I repeated.

“You’re being irrational.”

“I think she said to leave,” a male voice said from the edge of the porch, and we both flipped around to see Jonas standing there. He was dressed as if he’d been running: AirPods in his ears, enormous sneakers on his feet, and sweat dripping down his face.

Clayton eyed him just like he’d eyed Chevelle moments before and Marco when he’d had his arms around my waist days ago.

“Who’s this? A little young for you, don’t you think?” Clayton said, glaring at me and Jonas. “What kind of house is this? With men coming and going constantly.”

My face flushed at his insinuation. Especially since I hadn’t had a man in my bed since him. Nearly three years of abstinence. Three years of denying myself human touch in the most intimate ways.

“How dare you,” I blustered. “Not that it’s any of your business, but this is Marco’s brother.”

“Are you going to leave on your own, or am I going to have to make you?” Jonas asked as he mounted the steps and crossed his arms across his chest in a stance that was so like Marco that it hit me in the pit of my belly. It caused my heart to swell for this teenager who was trying to protect me in just the way his brother would.
