“I don’t want this to bounce back on you,” Cassidy said to Brady.
Brady looked shocked. “What do you mean?”
“You’re my partner, Brady. Silent, but there. People know that. If we sign and things get dicey, it could hurt your image.”
Brady was already shaking his head. “No. I’m not signing this deal, Cassidy. It has nothing to do with me. If you’re really worried about it, let me remove my name from The Golden Heart as I’ve already tried to do repeatedly.”
“It’s your money,” Cassidy breathed out.
“Was my money. Igaveit to you. It was a gift.”
She shook her head. It was an old argument between them.
Brady blew out a frustrated breath. “Fine, pay me back then. Sign the deal, and pay me off. Get my name out of it that way.”
He stood up, stalked to the door, and then turned back. “Just think about it. Think about how you can change your life and Chevelle’s with it.”
And then he left, but not before shooting me a glare and awhat the helllook.
I should have followed him out. Ten days ago, I would have, but now I wanted to be there so Cassidy had someone to talk to. Someone who only had her interests in mind. Someone who would listen just like she’d listened to me when I’d been plagued by my past and mistakes I couldn’t take back.
