“You’ve got adrenaline running through your bloodstream. You wouldn’t necessarily know if you sprained something, and walking on it would only make it worse. Let’s give it a try.”
She bites on her lip again and exhales a shaky breath. I shift my gaze. Fuck. She’s so precious. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep myself from kissing her. “I guess you carrying me couldn’t be any worse than my last ride.” She points to her SUV with a smirk.
“Good call,” I say, firmly reminding myself that the only reason I’m talking to Jenny West is because this is an emergency and there’s no one else here to help. I carefully lift her into my arms.
Lavender and orange-blossom smells waft up from her hair, and goddamn, I’m melting. She doesn’t put up a fight, far from it—sweet thing reaches behind my neck and clasps on.
I’ve got one arm under the sexy curve of her legs, the other supporting her shoulders, and the only thing on my mind is taking care of her. I adjust the straps of her bags on my arm and they bang against my legs as we slog through the snow.
“You sure I’m not breaking your back?” Jenny chuckles nervously.
“You’re as light as a feather.” I don’t dare to look down at her, because I know exactly where her lips are. They’re just begging to be kissed. I can feel her warm breath on my neck. One wrong head-tilt down from me, one move of her head up, and all bets are off. There’s no way I’d be able to stop myself from kissing her.
And don’t get me started about how much I want to let my hands roam all over her, but I don’t. I trudge through the snow, feeling like a lion with his prey. I force myself to forget the fact that my hand is little more than an inch away from her nipple.
Even though her brothers are the biggest pieces of shit in the county, I’ve always respected Jenny. I don’t want to make her any more uneasy than she already is.
She’s so fucking curvy and pretty, she could’ve been a stuck-up bitch in high school, but she wasn’t. Jenny’s always been one of the nice girls. And after all these years of fantasizing about her from a distance, now that she’s in my arms I realize how fucking tragic this could’ve been. What if I’d opened that car door and found her bleeding, or unconscious?
Jenny doesn’t make a sound, but I can almost hear all the doubts racing in her brain. She doesn’t know who you are. She’s just been through a trauma.
“I promise you’re going to be okay.” I adjust my grip on her. “I’ll keep you safe, darlin’.” I scan ahead, searching for the same path I used to get to her car, but my original footprints are gone. It must’ve dumped another foot of snow while we were at her car. Before long, we reach my cabin. I carry her up to the porch and gently set her down.
“Thank you.” Whether she realizes it or not, those emerald eyes of hers are flashing fire. Even if it was thirty below, the sparks would melt iron. The color’s back in her cheeks, and she’s flushing pink. “I think you can let go now.”
It’s only then that I realize my arms are still around her. I’m holding her like I never want to let go. “Of course.” I step back and give her space. Snow has frosted the top of her head, and I can’t take my eyes off her as she shakes her long brown hair, letting the puffy white flakes fall away.
Then she stomps her feet to get the snow off her tiny boots. Even through her coat I see her plump breasts jiggle. Fuck me. It’s going to be a long night. She juts out her right leg and gives it a wiggle. She does the same with her left, and damn,I’m dripping pre-cum. “I think I’m good. See?” She jumps up and down a few times. “No injuries.”
“Yeah. I can see that.” I pull my gaze away before I back her up against the wall and kiss her so hard she forgets her name.
I step beside her and open the front door. “Shall we?”
