Mine?Am I his?
“Uh, hi.” Talk about awkward. I don’t move to shake his hand or anything as Ryder’s eyes go from me to Chase and back to me again, obviously trying to get a read on the situation, which is as clear as day. Chase didn’t have time to put his shirt back on.
“Okay, who’s smoking reefer?” Another deep voice comes from the hall.
“That would be whoever was driving that Fiesta,” Ryder shouts to the still-unseen person. “Those dudes must be so high.” Ryder sniffs his shirt. “I’ll never get this smell out.”
“So what’s the plan?” A drop-dead gorgeous tall drink of water in a black cowboy hat struts into the kitchen.
Chase drapes his arm around my shoulders. “Lexi, Shane. Shane, Lexi.”
Shane flashes a knockout grin. “Pleasure’s all mine.” He raises a brow over piercing blue eyes, not even trying to hide the fact that he’s checking me out.
I look at my feet and then back up to Chase, who’s giving Shane a distinct “back off” glare.
Shane shrugs. “What’s the plan now?”
“You think it’s over?” Ryder walks over to the stove.
Chase grabs his shirt off the floor and puts it back on. “No. It’s definitely not over, not after I sent those idiots packing in their skivvies.”
“You know you have burgers cooking, right?” Ryder grabs a spatula and flips one.
BOOM!
Chapter Fourteen
Lexi jumps. “Was thata cherry bomb going off outside?”
“I’m guessing a .22 caliber handgun. It looks like the inbreds are back,” I say, flicking off the lights. I move Lexi away from the window to a corner between the kitchen and laundry room, the most protected area I can find. It takes a second for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. “Stay here. Don’t move.”
“But it’s my fault they’re mad at you. If I could just explain—”
“Yeah, I’m sure they’d offer you a peace crack-pipe. No, there’s no reasoning with them. Let me, Shane and Ryder take care of this.”
“Fine,” Lexi agrees reluctantly. I find her cheek and give her a kiss.
