“Problem?”

“Would you believe me if I said I was picking up the keys to unit 404 tomorrow morning?”

His mouth dropped open, “You're shitting me.”

I shook my head, giggled, then said, “Nope.”

Then he pointed at unit 403, “That’s me.”

I winked, then held out my hand, “Hi, neighbor.”

He shook his head, then shook my hand, “Howdy.”

‘All my life I thought air was free... until I bought a bag of chips.’

– Alec’s Secret Thoughts.

Chapter 4

Alec

Quickly, I ran through what I had in my place.

Nothing much.

But fuck, the thought of her staying anywhere else tonight wasn’t okay with me.

Then I looked at her and asked, “Hungry?”

She nodded.

I made a hasty decision, as I nodded, then put the truck into reverse, backed out, and caught her looking at me.

I winked, “Been working. Haven’t been home in a while. There’s no food in the fridge. Food Lion is the only store open this time of night.”

When she nodded, I headed to the store.

Thankfully, even though we lived in a small town, we still had the essentials.

Pulling into the parking lot, I knew I was going to have to throw it in four-wheel drive to get out of here.

Seeing the snow falling, I pulled up to the entrance and said, “Go ahead in. I’ll go park and meet you inside.”

I saw something flash in her eyes, but before I could question it, she nodded, then climbed out and headed inside.

Once I was parked, I climbed out of the truck and made my way inside.

Now, like I said before, I didn’t take the time to explain about her, because it was getting cold.

But now... seeing her standing there, I finally got my chance to get a good look at her.

And what a good look it was.

Her long black hair was starting to curl at the ends, and I knew it was because of the snow.

It was long and silky, hanging down to her mid-back.

She had pieces that framed her face.
