Jacob was alert then as he asked, “What’s wrong with your car?”

I smiled, “A girl thing. The battery terminals were loose.”

He chuckled, then he nodded.

Then I said to Alec, “He said it was okay.”

“Got it. You going to be there when I get there?” He asked.

I shook my head, “No, I gotta meet the delivery guys.”

“Okay, be careful, yeah? Need my help just let me know.”

“Okay, thank you, Alec,” I said.

“Any time. Later, Trouble.”

Once he disconnected, I put my phone back in my pocket and smiled at Jacob, then I asked, “Want to get dinner tomorrow night with me. Show me around?”

His eyes lit up, “Yeah, Cassie. I sure would like that.”

Then I headed home and met the delivery guys.

It was a few hours later, and nothing seemed right for dinner.

Therefore, I tagged my keys and headed into the next town over.

When I had been riding with Alec last night, we had passed by a sign that read Virgin Mary’s Bar & Grill on the way to Whispering Falls.

Seeing it again, I knew it was the right place.

Therefore, I pulled my car into the lot and took it in.

The place looked like it had been plucked out of a cheesy rom-com with all the best feels in a city girl meets a local townie.

I loved it.

I walked over to one of the barstools, swiveled it, score, and planted my bootie in it.

A woman with hair almost as long as mine and the same color saw me, winked at me, and said, “Hi, Twin.”

I winked back, “Hi, Twin.”

She giggled, “I’m Birdie.”

I nodded, “I’m Cassie.”

“What can I get ya?” she asked.

After I placed my order, and she placed a cold bottle of beer down in front of me, I continued taking in the bar.

But a conversation halted my scanning of the bar.

“So, what happened?” A girl asked.

“I’m not sure. All I know is that something went down with Garrick’s wife, Tatum, a couple of years ago, and ever since then, Alec has gone cold turkey.” Another girl said.

And at the sound of Alec’s name, I twisted my head to look at them.
