“None, their women were in units with the men, But I personally know several Army Rangers that are female. One such friend is associated with the Brotherhood Protection Agency that we mentioned before. If you have no further questions, I’m done with my spiel.” She sat back and looked at each of her older brothers again, and nodded when they remained silent.
“Are you going to help train them on the guns?” Uncle Chip asked.
“No, I’ll leave that in your hands. If it’s alright with you, I’d like to look in your files for more recruits.” She paused then grinned. “Is it still in the same place?”
“It is,” Chip laughed. “Okay, I’ll set the boys up and join you later.”
Morgan only nodded as she rose and headed toward the door. With her hand on the door, she paused and looked back at them. “Oh, and if you tell the A’s about any of this, they have to come in and go through the same thing you are about to go through. Don’t think that you’ll shoot a gun once or twice and be trained. If I know Uncle Chip, he’s about to tell you about a six-week training mission. I would suggest if you’re dating anyone, without revealing what you’re doing, you better tell them not to call you all the time. Oh, and it’s up to you to tell Dad about you coming to North Dakota to help with the barracks.” She nodded once and opened the door, letting it close softly behind her.
She didn’t hear or see her brothers look at their uncle in shock. “Is she serious?”
“As a heart attack.” Chip nodded and stood. “Better follow me, boys. We’ve got a lot of work to do in a very short time.” Then, he left the room, anticipating they would follow.
CHAPTER4
Ava walkedaround her apartment with her landlord, and when he didn’t say anything she also remained silent. She had been renting from him for the last two years, and was about to leave, however, she wanted her security deposit back before she left. Not that she needed the money, but every little bit helped. She had to drive from San Diego to Montana, gas prices were outrageous, and she needed every cent. She had cleaned the entire apartment from top to bottom.
“What are you asking me for?”
“To look at the apartment and see the proof that I left it in excellent condition. I’m leaving as soon as you return my security deposit, and I’m not returning.” When it looked like Mr. Abrams would dispute the claim, she stood to her full height of only five foot four, and glared at the man. “This place is in better condition now than when I moved in two years ago. I have pictures as proof of the condition of this place before I moved in. Not once in two years was I ever late on my rent, and I never told you when both the stove and refrigerator, both your appliances, shit the bed, and I replaced them with my own money.”
“Fine, can you stop by the office on your way out?”
“I’ll be there in ten minutes,” Ava said, and watched as the man left. She walked around one last time, then picked up her last pack, and closed and locked the door behind her. In the office, she held onto the keys until she received the check for her deposit. After looking at it, she nodded and passed the keys over. “Thank you, Mr. Abrams.”
“You’re welcome. I’m sorry to see you go. I think in all the time I’ve ever rented to people, you’re the only person that I didn’t have to worry about. I’m sorry to see you go. I hope everything is okay?”
“It is, I’m leaving the state for a new job.”
“Good luck,” Mr. Abrams said, then he actually stuck his hand out to shake hers. After shaking it, he sat down, and Ava left. Outside she swung her pack on the back of her Harley Davidson motorcycle with the other two, strapped it down, then swung her leg over the seat, and settled in. She donned her helmet, and fired up the bike to pull out onto the street. Her first stop was to the bank to cash the check she’d just received. Once there, she not only cashed the check, but after she received the money, she closed out her account, collecting all that money also. Not that it was much, but it was all she had. After leaving the bank, she settled in the seat of her Harley, pulled her phone, and dialed. This was the first time since she’d talked to Angel almost two weeks ago that she had returned the call.
“Hello?”
“Angel, it’s Ava.”
“Oh, hi. How are you?”
“Good, I’m going to keep this short. I’m all packed and ready to head out. I just completed the last thing on my list.”
“If you don’t mind my asking, what was it?”
“To close out my bank account. I’m loaded and ready to pull out. I only need an address.”
“I’ll text it to you. Exactly where are you coming from?”
“San Diego. Where exactly am I going?”
“The Crazy Mountains in Montana.”
“Okay, I’m looking for the trip to take at least a week, weather permitting. In case I didn’t already tell you, I’m riding my Harley. Oh, and I have nothing to come back to here, so I hope you were serious about giving me a job.”
“I am. I’ll explain it all when you get here. Take your time, and I’ll expect you in a week. If you run into any trouble, you call me.”
“I will, thanks, Angel.” Ava hung up and waited for two minutes. When she received the text with the address, she programmed it into her GPS on her phone. With a nod, she put her helmet back on, started the bike, dropped it in gear, and headed north.
* * *
Ava glanceddown at her GPS, and grinned when the app indicated she only had ten miles to go. Instead of stopping to find a bathroom, she sped up, and made it to her destination in eight minutes. As she rode down the long driveway, she had to grit her teeth and wince a few times when she thought her bladder would let loose. After rounding the last corner, she slowed even further when she noticed at least ten motorcycles parked in the driveway. She eased to a stop, shut her bike down, and removed her helmet. She climbed off her bike, and looked up when she heard the squeak of a door, and saw a tall, beautiful blonde standing there.
