“What?” Morgan looked at him in shock.
“Yeah, I might look, and act like a big, bad biker, but my day job is an engineer. I’ve designed several buildings here downtown, and in other cities, especially back home. What seems to be the problem with the blueprints?”
“I don’t know, when the town said they had issues, it turns out that they won’t talk to me about them for at least six weeks. Since the ground is still frozen, I decided to come here to talk to Uncle Chip about possible recruits.” She shook her head when her brother started to say something. “I will not talk to you about what I’m doing, not until you talk exclusively with Uncle Chip. Until then, I will discuss the building with you, but that is it. However, everything, all the plans, and the prints are back home in North Dakota.”
“Do you need construction workers?” John asked in his quiet way.
“I do. We thought we could use the ranch hands, but that won’t work. Why?” She snorted a laugh, and joked, “You volunteering?” Morgan laughed, then frowned when they didn’t laugh along with her. “Guys, what are you saying? Are you willing to give up your lives here and move to North Dakota? What about the club? Do you really think Dad would want you to leave the club?”
“We could always start a new chapter in North Dakota.” Justin shrugged and looked at his brothers, who all nodded. Because they were looking at each other, they didn’t see the look Morgan and Chip exchanged between them.
“Can you give us a few minutes?” Chip asked the boys. “Go back out to reception and wait. I need to discuss something with Morgan.” The men looked at each other, then nodded, turned on their heels, and went out, closing the door behind them. Both Morgan and Chip realized they’d left their leather jackets behind.
“What are you thinking?” Morgan asked Chip as she refilled both of their coffee cups.
“If they’re serious about helping, we both know you can’t read them into what your missions would be, but what if we used them to gather the information we need.”
“Wouldn’t that put their lives in jeopardy?” Morgan frowned at her boss. “Chip, I won’t put my brothers’ lives in danger. We both know they aren’t trained to do any ops, or even to help us.”
“What if I read them in? I’d have to run background checks on them, but they can have the perfect cover by helping you build the barracks, they’ll be there in the neighborhood. I’m sure they’ll want to go out and ride, get to know the area. What better way to gather information.”
“But, I won’t use them like that.”
“It wouldn’t be using them if I read them into everything that’s going on out there. What better way to get what we need?”
“I love you, Uncle Chip, and I’d do anything for my country, but I will not put my brothers in danger. You and I both know what could happen. Hell, Wyatt doesn’t even know what I’m going to be doing.”
“What about his brother?” Chip asked. “You know when I found out you were going to marry Wyatt and move to North Dakota permanently, I had him and his entire family investigated. Dillon would be the perfect person to help, and guide them once they arrive. I’ll brief them here, answer all their questions, then call Dillon and talk to him.”
“We’re talking weeks, right, at least four to six? We can always wait on the barracks, I want them to be one hundred percent sure of what they are getting into. If it’s even ninety-nine percent, I won’t agree to it.” She glared at her uncle, then shook her head. “And I want them weapons trained. It’s not on the blueprints, but you and I both know that I’ll be having a war room in the basement of the barracks. That will be a given. I want the J’s trained on the weapons that we will be stocking there.
“I understand.” Chip paused and then looked Morgan directly in the eye. “Will you sit in on it?”
“I’ll have to. I think we need to do this in the war room here.”
“I agree. Why don’t you go get the J’s, and I’ll gather what I need, and have my schedule cleared.”
“Be right back.” Morgan rose to her feet, gathered the leather jackets left behind, and went out to get her brothers. Against her better judgement, things were about to get hairy and real.
CHAPTER3
Morgan walkedout of her uncle’s office, and back down the hall to reception. When she entered, she noted that her brothers were standing off to the side, and not trying to draw attention to themselves, which was kind of hard, when you had a set of triplets with jet-black hair, blue eyes, and stood well over six feet, with broad shoulders, and bulging biceps. She didn’t know if they worked out every day, or if it was natural. Sighing, she entered and cleared her throat to get their attention. It didn’t take long for them to join her.
“What’s up?” Justin, the oldest of the three asked as he took his leather from her.
“Follow me,” Morgan said as she handed the other jackets out, then turned on her heel and went back the way she’d come, except instead of going into her uncle’s office, she continued on, and at the end of the hall, she took the stairway down three flights. After traversing through a series of hallways, she finally arrived at the room she wanted.
“Come in,” she said over her shoulder as she used her code on the keypad beside the door, and went inside. She pointed to the corner and told them they could leave their leather jackets there, then pointed to the industrial metal table in the center of the room. “Take a seat, Uncle Chip will be with us shortly.” She walked over to the counter on the side, and looked back to them. “Coffee?” When they all nodded agreement, she started yet another pot. She smiled when she realized her uncle would have a fresh pot in his office when he returned. It would probably be sludge by the time he got back to it, but that wasn’t her problem. As she gathered the things for the coffee, she turned, leaned her hips on the counter behind her, and studied her brothers. They were looking around the room with their eyes as large as saucers. She looked around and realized that it was old news to her, but for her brothers seeing all the weapons on walls, and the clear boards that they used to write on. She smiled when Josh looked at her with a sheepish grin.
“It looks like it’s from a movie. All we’re missing is the computers running information in the background.
Morgan ginned, reached over and hit a button. She turned back in time to watch the shock come over her brother’s faces as they watched the wall to the side of Morgan disappear, and several computer stations began to appear.
“Holy shit, and you know what all this stuff is for?” Justin asked in shock.
“I do, why do you think I still have my own personal code to get into rooms like this? I may not be working out of this branch of Boswell Group, but I am still employed by them. What do you think I’m trying to do in North Dakota?”
“We don’t know, that’s why we’re here.”
