“Morg, you got a minute?” Justin asked, and used his eyes to indicate Alex, then she said to follow her to the office. On the way, Ava went to her room, and grabbed the folder from earlier.
In the office, Morgan looked at Wyatt with a shrug. “Do you mind if Wyatt listens in?”
“Not at all.” Justin took a seat, and Ava grabbed the other one. They positioned them so that they could see both of them as they sat behind their desks.
“Ava made a suggestion earlier, and I don’t have a problem with it, but you might, and we wanted to bring it to your attention.”
“Oh?”
“Justin purchased a TV for the living room. That’s the only one we got, and the men were arguing who would ask me if they could come over and watch it. I don’t have a problem with them being there. I then made the suggestion that they could buy cots, or other beds and set them up in the basement, but they could have complete access to the common area of the house.”
“What about when the other women arrive?” Wyatt asked as he studied them.
“We wouldn’t be sleeping in their rooms, and there’s the bathroom on the main floor, and the one in the basement we could use. But, my concern is that as far as I know, the A’s and Chuck don’t know why the women will be there, and what they will be doing. I won’t stay in the house if I can’t talk freely with Ava about her excursions, and what she’s found out, if anything.”
“Crap,” Morgan sighed as she scrubbed her face and then reached up, and ran her hands through her already-spiked hair. She looked at Wyatt, and he only lifted his hands and shrugged.
“It’s up to you. My two cents would be that the men might not want to be in that camper when the really hot weather hits. If Ava’s okay with it, I know I’d personally feel better if they were there in case something happened.” He looked at Ava and shrugged again. “No offense against you being a woman or anything.”
“None taken, and I totally agree with you. Until we can get surveillance set up on the outside, I think I’d jump at every little sound if I was in that big house all by myself. It’s going to be what? Two, three weeks before the others arrive? If they accept your proposal?”
“Maybe longer. I’m hoping to have everyone here by October 1st.”
“And it’s mid-June now. That’ll be well over three months that Ava would be in the house alone. Don’t forget the wedding in September. I suggest that we put your parents, and Chip and his wife in the house when they come, if the other women aren’t here by then, but then again, we do have the three spare rooms upstairs.”
“And my room,” Ava said. “I’ll be moving in the house on Tuesday.”
“I hear what you’re saying, but I don’t know if we can afford it.” Morgan frowned when both Ava and Justin grinned.
“Look at the receipts.” Justin pointed to the folder she’d tossed on her desk. With a frown Morgan picked it up and looked at it, then she whipped her head up, and demanded, “Are you shitting me?” She jumped to her feet and went over and showed Wyatt. He frowned and looked at them. “What did you buy?”
“Eight complete bedroom sets, beds, with box springs, mattresses, frames, head and foot boards. Two night stands, two lamps, a tall dresser, and a short, longer dresser. Then, we got the living-room furniture of two couches, two love seats, four loungers, a dining-room table that seats ten, a kitchen table that seats six. All with chairs.”
“For this price?” Wyatt sat up and grabbed the receipt from Morgan. “Holy shit, maybe we should go check them out.”
“Don’t forget the pillows,” Ava sang out.
“Or the throw rugs.” Justin did the same.
“No, you two can go back and get those.” Morgan grinned. “What about the washer and dryer?”
“That’s on a different receipt, and both sets are being delivered on Thursday also. The house was painted today, and Chuck told me that the bathrooms were tiled and painted. Alan said the kitchen cabinets should be in by Saturday.”
“Do you know when the inspector is coming back out to give the final approval?”
“Monday.”
“Okay, I hear what you’re saying about the A’s and Chuck, but before we do anything, let me talk to Uncle Chip, see what he says. He might come out, or he might have to ask Dillon or Tom to step in.” She frowned, then nodded again. “Tom wants to see Ava at the shooting range with her sniper rifle. I think you, John, and Josh should go with her to refresh your shooting skills. If Tom steps in to help, we’ll send the others with you. Now that the house is almost done, then it’ll be perfect for them to learn.” She turned to Wyatt, and asked, “Can you spare Alex?”
“I can, I do now. He’s been talking about becoming a full-time ranch hand after the house is done. He’s taken to it like a duck takes to water. I barely have to give him any corrections. It helps that the boys have taken him under their wing.”
Morgan nodded and turned to Justin. “Do any of you have any jobs lined up after the house is done?”
“John does, but not me. I’ve put up my flyer all over town today, hoping to get something. If not, I’ll help out on the ranch here, or help you with Boswell.”
“Okay, let me think about it, and before I make any decisions, I’ll want to talk to you at a later date. I want you to think long and hard on what it would mean to bring the A’s in on this. I don’t have a problem with Chuck, but I still think of the A’s as little boys.”
“Morg, they’re twenty-six years old. Where were you when you were that age?”
