Chapter 18
“What’s going on?”Lorna asked when she saw Silver come on the computer for FaceTime. “What’s so urgent?”
“I don’t know, all I know is that Chad contacted me and asked me if we could have a FaceTime conference call.” Silver held up her finger for Lorna to wait, then answered the other call coming in. “Hey, Chad, Lorna’s with us. What’s going on?”
“Hey, first let me apologize for disturbing your Saturday. I was in the office and going to start on your invites, but I ran into some questions. I’ve forwarded e-mails to both of you. Take a couple of minutes to read them, then we can discuss this fiasco that’s come across my desk.”
Silver and Lorna frowned at each other, then did as he requested. “What the fucking hell is this?” Lorna demanded, less than two minutes later. She looked at Silver and demanded. “Are you seeing this?”
“I am, and I’m confused. Who sent you these e-mails, Chad?”
“Anna Franklin, as you can see, she said she was Silver’s replacement.”
“She is, sort of.”
“What’s that mean?”
“It means that I was promoted to an event coordinator, so I’m equal to what Lorna does, and together we hired Anna to replace me as an assistant, but she works for both of us, we didn’t know if we needed two, or if one could do it.”
“In my personal opinion, after reading all these e-mails, I’d fire her, and hire someone who knows what they’re doing. As you can see from the correspondence, she refuses to talk on the phone to me. If I’m to continue to be your printer, then I need to be able to talk to someone when and if I run into a snag. As of now, I don’t know what you’re wanting me to print.” Silver flipped through the e-mails, until she came to the one with the information to be printed.
“Shit,” she whispered.
“What?” Lorna asked.
“Anna combined our two fundraisers. She has the name of yours, but with my location, and the phone number is a combination of yours, mine, and the office. It’s all over the place.” She looked at Lorna, then at Chad. “I’ll have this fixed and sent back to you with the correct information within the hour.”
“Take your time, because I have one last e-mail to send you, and I think that’s more important to deal with than this. I can always put a rush on the printing if I have everything before noon on Monday.”
“Okay, that works, but what’s this last e-mail?” Lorna asked.
“I received it late Friday, and didn’t open it until after I contacted Silver this morning. That’s the reason I contacted her.” Silver saw Chad’s fingers fly over the keyboard, and then he nodded as he looked into the camera. “All sent. I’m sorry to lay this all on you, but I think you need to deal with this as soon as possible. I’m going to sign off and let the two of you deal with this. I wish you luck.” Then, Chad was gone from both of their screens.
“What the hell?” Lorna asked as both women opened the e-mail.
“Oh, hell no,” they both said as one, then looked at each other in wide-eyed shock. Silver looked at Lorna in a combination of shock and fear. “Please, tell me we hired a psycho, and this is all lies.”
“Can you print this out? My printer shit the bed two days ago, and I haven’t had time to get a new one.”
“Yes,” Silver said as she did just that, then held it up as she waved it at the computer.
“You know where Ronnie and Finn live?”
“I do.”
“Meet me there in an hour. We’re going to get to the bottom of this now, and nip it in the bud. I just hate to wait until we get into work on Monday to talk to Deb in HR.”
“Why would we have to wait until Monday?”
“Because, I don’t have any of her personal information. I know this is lies, and Finn is going to go ballistic when he reads this. I want Deb in on why we are firing Anna first thing Monday morning.”
“I have her contact information. She gave me her personal cell number when I was still out from my injuries. Want me to have her meet us at Finn’s?”
“Please,” Lorna said as she looked off to the side, and Silver heard her talking to someone off screen. “Andy’s coming with me, so can you print all the e-mails Chad sent us?”
“Already done. I’ll send a text to Deb and meet you there.”
“Thanks, Silver.” Lorna rang off, and as Silver pulled her phone, she frowned at the knock on her door. Armed with her phone, the folder she’d put together, and her purse with her keys in her hand, she headed toward the door. Without even looking, she whipped it open and stepped directly into Patch’s chest. If he hadn’t put his arms around her, they both would have ended up on the floor.
