“She violated the terms of our divorce, and she lied to me about Lorna’s mental faculties. My lawyer is drawing up the papers as we speak, but I was too impatient to wait.” He shrugged, and both men of the law wrote notes in their pads. Amos turned to Ronnie and frowned.

“Why did you call me?”

“Because Kristen admitted to Marvin, Andy, and myself that she met Rio on her cruise, and hired him to kidnap Lorna. I don’t think she knew how bad of a person he was. I’ll admit, and even go to jail if I have to, but I slapped her when she started blaming Lorna for all her money problems. When I hit her, her head swung to the side and hit the edge of the couch that has some wood on it.”

“Did you kill her?” Barry asked in shock.

“No, but I think I broke her face,” Ronnie giggled and Marvin snorted a laugh.

“Let’s go look.”

“Okay, but wait.” Ronnie looked at Amos. “Major’s guarding her.” As she headed toward the room where Kristen was, she heard Amos explaining who Major was. Ronnie called out when she had Major back away from Kristen. The men walked in and Ronnie had to cover her smirk when the two law enforcement officers took one look at Kristen Hepplewaite and blanched.

“What the fuck happened to her face?” Amos asked as he leaned in to get a closer look.

“She hit it here,” Ronnie pointed out. “I know she’s had extensive plastic surgery over the years, and has cheek implants. I wonder if the doctor did shoddy work and didn’t secure them properly. I know I didn’t hit her that hard.” She shrugged. “After she revealed where Rio was holding Lorna, Andy and Marvin left. I tied her up so she couldn’t get away.”

“Good,” Barry said, then excused himself when his phone went off. He stepped out into the hall to take the call. He was back in less than two minutes with a huge grin on his face, and noticed that Kristen Hepplewaite was awake. He walked behind her and started reading her rights. After cutting the tape off one hand, he brought it back, slapped a cuff on it, and did the same with the other. He didn’t talk to the rest of them, until he had her standing in front of him.

“That was my men who had been given instructions to go to the warehouse. Rio Santos is in custody.”

“Lorna?” Ronnie and Marvin asked.

“Being taken to the hospital, along with three other women that were found in the warehouse along with Lorna. My men are trying to sort everything out. Rio’s not talking, but the women are. However, they all need medical attention.”

“We’re gone,” Ronnie said, and turned to Marvin. “Can you give Major and me a ride to the hospital.”

“Yes.” Marvin said, and they turned to leave, but Amos stopped them.

“What do we do with this house? Do you have the keys to lock it up?”

“No clue, you’d have to talk to her.” Ronnie pointed to Kristen. “Looks like she’s going to need medical attention too. Amos, I told you earlier, I’ll go to jail if I have to, but please wait until I’ve seen Lorna first.”

“I see no reason for you to be arrested, so go, be with your friend.” He waved them away. After calling for Major, Ronnie and Marvin ran through the house and breathed a sigh of relief when they realized Marvin’s car hadn’t been blocked in. At the last minute, Ronnie took the keys from him.

“I’ll drive, you’re shaking too much.” They hopped in and she looked at him. “Please, don’t have a heart attack on me.”

“I’m fine, and if it comes down to you going to jail for hitting Kristen, I’ll post your bail, and hire the best damn lawyer money can buy.”

“Thank you, but you do remember who my fiancé is, right?”

“No, wait, oh shit, you’re engaged to Finnegan Larson. Richer than god.”

“Yes, I don’t think he, William, nor Eric would allow me to stay one night in jail.”

“Yeah,” Marvin laughed. “I don’t think so either. Thank you for being my daughter’s friend.”

“It’s no hardship, Lorna is a wonderful, smart, sexy, beautiful woman. I’m happy to be her friend.” They settled in for the drive to the local hospital. They found a mêlée of ambulances, trucks, and general confusion. After parking, with Major between them, Ronnie and Marvin made their way to the emergency entrance. That was where they stood back and watched as an ambulance opened their doors, and Patch jumped out. He reached in and grabbed the gurney, barking out orders as he ran beside it.

“What the hell?” Marvin asked as Andy climbed out. He saw them and rushed over in time to hear Ronnie tell Marvin who that man was.

“Kristen?”

“Under arrest by the FBI,” Ronnie said, and had to catch Andy. “How bad is she?”

“She’s cut up. The fucker cut her.”

“Rape?” Marvin asked.
