Standing before him, dressed in leggings, sandals, and a loose, off-the-shoulder shirt, stood the most beautiful, sexy woman he’d ever seen in his life.

“Wow, you’re beautiful.”

“Thank you,” Lorna said, and stared at him. “You’re not so bad yourself. I like the shirt, it enhances the blue in your eyes.”

Andy stepped back and allowed her to enter. He chuckled as she passed him. “That’s exactly what my sister said when she gave it to me.”

“Well, she was right.” Lorna followed him into the kitchen, and handed him the bottle of wine. “Do you have more than one?”

“One what?”

“Sister, sibling?”

“Oh, yeah, I’m number one of five. You?”

“No, I’m an only child.” Lorna looked around and heaved a heavy sigh. “I don’t mean to be rude, but can we keep the family talk until later. I don’t really want to get into anything heavy. Somehow I feel it will turn that way.”

“You’re right, but I will say this before I table the discussion. I love my family with every fiber of my being, and I would do anything for them. However, they all drive me batshit crazy with their ideals, and way of life. It’s not for me. I guess you could say I’m the black sheep of the family. I have never conformed to any of their ideas.”

“At least you have a family. I only have a mother that thinks she’s god’s gift for rich men. I’ll say this, then it’s done until we know each other better, but as we speak, Mother’s off on a three-month cruise, looking for husband number eight.”

Andy spat out the sip of beer he’d just taken, and stared at her in both wide-eyed, and opened mouth shock. “Number eight?”

“Yep. And that’s not including my father, so technically, this one would be number nine.”

“And your father?”

“No clue, Mother said he died before I was born.”

Andy’s mind was going a million miles a second, all with questions, but if he wanted answers, he knew he needed to follow her rules. Who knew his one-night stand, and neighbor would be a gold mine of information? Tabling the discussion for now, he opened the bottle of wine, and poured her a glass. “Do you mind if I continue with my beer?”

“Not at all. I don’t drink a lot, so this bottle should last me a long time.”

“What were you drinking at the club the other night?”

“Would you believe seltzer and lime? I refuse to drink alcohol if I go out alone.”

“Smart. I hope you like goulash?”

“Which is?”

“Pasta.”

“I love pasta.” Lorna grinned and patted her hip. “As you can tell, pasta likes me too.”

“Please, stop. There is nothing wrong with your size. You’re a curvy woman, with all the right padding in all the right places.”

“Thank you.” Lorna sipped her wine, then sighed. “So, how do you make goulash?”

“First,” Andy grinned as he picked up a white package. “You need to thaw the frozen hamburger.” They went to the microwave and read the directions printed on the inside rim to defrost the burger. As it warmed, Andy gathered the items he’d need, explaining why he picked the pan he did, and its purpose. While the hamburger continued to defrost, he told her to draw hot water into one pan, and place it on the stove.

“Now salt it.”

“How much?”

“Until it tastes like the ocean.” Andy grinned, then frowned at her confused look. “What?”

“I’ve never been to the ocean. How salty is it?”
