“Damn, I mean monk, that’s a good idea.”

Silver laughed. “You never did tell me what monk meant.”

“It’s my new swear word. It’s either monk, or monk balls.”

“Not monkey balls?”

Lorna grinned. “No, since I’m not into bestiality, I can’t tell someone to go suck big hairy monkey balls, but I can say oh monk balls, and they can still understand what I’m saying.” She grinned when Silver sputtered on her coffee.

“Oh, my god, I love it.”

“Thanks. So, do you want to go with me?”

“What about the phones?”

“We can switch them to voicemail, and deal with them when we get back.”

“Oh, wow.”

“Yeah, I don’t like to do that, which is why I requested a temp. I only use voicemail when I’m out of the office, or in a meeting. I like the hands-on approach.”

“Good to know. Do I need to bring anything with me?”

“No, unless you want to take notes.”

“I do,” Silver said, and hurried out to grab a pad of paper. On the way out the front door, Lorna stopped at the front reception desk.

“Ashley, I’ll be gone from the office for a few hours, could you send my calls to voicemail.”

“Sure thing, Lorna. Thanks for giving me the heads up.”

“You’re welcome. Oh, and this is Silver, she’s helping me out for the time being.”

“Nice to meet you.” Ashley shook Silver’s hand, and the two of them left. Lorna looked at her watch.

“Would you like to get a quick bite before we head over to the aquarium?”

“I left my lunch upstairs.”

“I’ll buy. I forgot to pack mine this morning. I need to remember to stop and get groceries on the way home.” Lorna sighed. There was no way she was going to tell Silver that she forgot, and wasn’t used to having to buy anything, since growing up with a chef on staff. She was a big girl now, and needed to live in the real world.

“I’ll remind you before you leave tonight.” Silver grinned at her. They climbed into Lorna’s car and ended up eating only a block away from the aquarium. With it being such a nice day, they sat outside to eat, both remaining quiet, lost in their own thoughts.

Chapter 11

“Why are you paying?” Silver whispered to Lorna, when the other woman handed her the entrance ticket.

“I may be here on business, but that’s no reason why I shouldn’t pay the entrance fee. I’m just like any other citizen. I don’t want, or need special privileges.”

“Dang, I never thought of it like that.”

“I’ll try to tell you in advance, but I’m not used to being in this position. I’ve always been where you’re standing, and my predecessor would demand to be let in for free. Not that she took me on very many excursions with her, but still, when Finn offered me this job, I made a personal vow to do it better.”

Silver only nodded, and looked at her new boss in awe. When Lorna stepped up to the security desk, Silver stood taller.

“Hello, I was wondering if you could do me a favor?”

“What’s that, Miss?”
