“I got this,” a voice said from behind them, and everyone turned to watch as Finn Larson walked into the exam room. He reached down, picked Ronnie up, and settled her on the exam table. “All set?”
“Yes. What are you doing here?” She frowned, then looked down and grinned. “You got your cast removed.”
“I did.”
“Excuse me,” the nurse said, and actually glared at Ronnie, who’d had her hand on Finn’s forearm.
“Can he stay in here? He received his broken ankle saving me. We’ve been through recovery together.”
“I’ll stay in the corner.” Finn grinned, then did just that as he wedged himself in the corner and kept quiet.
“Fine,” she said, and took Ronnie’s vitals and then said the doctor would be with them shortly. As soon as she left, Ronnie looked at Finn and rolled her eyes.
“So, when did you get here?”
“Actually, Dad brought me out yesterday. I spent the night at Patch’s place and then caught a cab here. I have to call him to come get me.”
“Why not ride back with us?” Ronnie asked, and looked at Gerald. “That will be okay, right?”
“Sure. But where’s Major?”
“Grandpa has him.” Finn rolled his eyes and then grinned. “I got a call this morning. Norm called me.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, Molly’s pregnant.”
“Good for you,” she said, and not knowing what to do, she reached out and hugged him. That was how Patch saw them as he walked in, along with another doctor.
“What are you doing here?” Patch demanded when he saw Finn.
“I saw Ronnie trying to get on the table and I helped her. She invited me to stay.”
“Okay, but this won’t work.” The other doctor said and Ronnie realized it was Dr. Smith. “We’re going to have to move down to a bigger room,” he said, and after Finn lifted Ronnie again, she was the last one to leave the room. In the new room she actually frowned at all the dust and looked around and giggled.
“Was that yours?” She pointed to a green camo cast that had been on someone’s foot.
“Yeah.” Then he and Gerald stood to the side, and watched Patch and Dr. Smith as they told Ronnie where they wanted her. When Patch went to lift her, Finn actually growled, and he looked up and grinned, then stepped back. Finn quickly put her where indicated, then stepped back.
“I think we’ll remove the pins in your leg first, then we’ll remove the cast, and after that, we’ll take x-rays.” Dr. Smith said, then everyone looked up as a different nurse came in with a sheet. She only stood off to the side and waited.
“Wow,” Ronnie said, as she watched them removed the hardware from her leg. They actually unscrewed the pins from her leg. They stuck them in a case and handed them to her. “That’s it?”
“Yep.” Patch grinned and leaned down, and she actually slapped him.
“What?” He jerked and looked at her in concern.
“I have to shave that leg.”
The nurse giggled and Patch only shook his head. With gloves on, he and Dr. Smith examined the holes left in her leg and nodded to each other.
“Looks good,” Patch said, then picked up a saw and turned it on, then turned it off just as quickly. “It’s loud, but it won’t cut your skin, it’s only designed to cut the plaster and when it reaches the gauze beneath, it stops. Gerald, Finn, how about you put some gloves on and help Dr. Smith with the weight. I’m going to cut beneath her left arm and cut down the side, then do the same for the right, but I don’t want any pressure on her ribs or shoulders.” They did as told, and Ronnie sat as still as she could and kept her eyes on the nurse.
“Sara,” Patch said, as soon as he put the saw down, and the nurse stepped forward.
“I’m ready.”
“Okay, Gerald and Finn, we’re going to need you in front and behind Ronnie. Dr. Smith and I will separate the plaster. Only hold it so it doesn’t crash off her.”
