“Cut it.” Anger blossomed in my belly. “I saved your life. Don’t be foolish. Don’t waste my sacrifice.” I wanted to shout, to rant. I wanted to reach out and grab him. Hold him and never let go. But I was dying. I wrapped my arms around my chest to stop myself from reaching out.

Luc had caught up to me now. Holding onto the thread with one large hand, he extended his other arm, grabbing me around the waist, hauling me against his body.

“Caly. Baby. I don’t want my life if you aren’t in it.” His head lowered and he kissed me. Deeply. Desperately. A spark of heat ignited in my chest. “You can’t die. I won’t allow it.” His voice was a deep growl.

“You are so arrogant.” I kissed him back. Somewhere far away my heart began to beat.

“Of course.” He smirked. “It’s one of the things you love about me.”

The next time I opened my eyes it was daylight. My body was tucked against a hard chest. The chest was naked and stacked with muscle. The skin was silver. The arms around my body shifted slightly and I groaned. Everything hurt. Every nerve pulsed with pain as though I had been flayed.

“Lie still. Help is coming.”

“Luc.” My voice was a whisper.

“Yes sweetheart.” He nuzzled my hair, impossibly gentle.

“Thank you. Thank you for coming to get me.”

“Always.”

Chapter 84

Luc

I had her in my arms. She was safe. The panic I’d felt since our bond had started to unravel was finally beginning to settle. But I’d come too close to losing her. Terror iced my veins at the thought of it ever happening again. I knew she thought I’d already been overprotective. She hadn’t seen anything. It might take me years before I’d let her out of my sight again.

The journal was gone. While I’d been following Caly down our disintegrating bond, I hadn’t been aware of my surroundings, and one of the goons had taken it.

It didn’t matter. This was a victory. My mate and I were both alive, which was more than I had dared to hope for from the moment she was abducted.

I had her. Nothing else mattered. I dropped my head to her hair, drinking in her scent.

Beast’s hearing detected the sound of sirens. About fucking time. Caly needed an ambulance. She’d come back to me, but I could feel her pain. I scarcely breathed, muscles locked in place. Just shifting her in my arms had caused her to groan in agony.

Once she had recovered, she was going to experience the consequences of her rash actions. She shouldneverhave putherself at risk of dying. Not even for me. She had earned a punishment. I smiled. It would be a lesson she’d never forget.

Chapter 85

Calypso

“Luc, please.” My voice was breathy, but I didn’t care how desperate I sounded.

“I haven’t punished you enough.”

I tried to arch my back, to rub my body against his, but the steel bar that was Luc’s arm held me immobile on the bed. My arms were held above my head, the wrists tied together with a silk tie looped around one of the bars of the headboard. He knew that if my hands were free, I’d have pulled his hair, grabbed his biceps, trying to pull him higher up my body. Anything to stop this torture.

“Please fuck me.” My orgasm was just out of reach, my entire body buzzing with the need for release. Luc had teased me with his tongue and fingers, bringing me to the brink over and over, then easing away. I needed to be filled with his thick cock. I needed him to fuck me hard. To fill me. Towreckme.

“Say you’re sorry.” His fingers hovered over my clit. “Tell me you’ll never do that again.”

I couldn’t say it. Iwouldn’tsay it. I would do it again. “No.”

“Baby.” His breath was hot against my skin as he kissed his way up my abdomen, lingering on my nipples. I moaned, helpless against the onslaught, my body pulsing with need. “If you can’t be trusted, I’ll have to keep you locked up. For your own safety.”

Locked up and full of my cock, he purred in my mind.
