We didn’t simply need to breed Merri. If Hades was right, we might just be destined for her.
As we stepped out of the room, leaving Hades behind, I pulled out my phone, desperate to ensure Pan’s safety. I typed out six words in a message to the lord of the underworld. Six words that crushed my sad excuse for a heart but I knew were necessary.
Me:
Don’t tell Pan who I am.
A message came back almost instantly.
Hades:
You have my word.

CHAOS
It had been a long time since I’d cared what a woman thought of my appearance, but I really fucking cared now that Merri was in my life. I just needed her to want me a fraction as much as I wanted her. She’d been a constant presence in my mind since I woke up from that dream this morning. And the ache I’d felt for her had only grown since Grim’s news. I had to hear it from her lips. I needed to know if she’d been there with me. If what had happened in that dream might not have just been my subconscious wishing for something.
Fuck, I could still feel her as I slid inside right before I so cruelly woke up.
The soft murmur of voices from down the hall turned my head and had me following in search of the woman I craved. She was with Sin, spending time with him, opening up to him, and I needed to be part of it. If I was going to claim my spot in her bed, I sure as hell couldn’t do it from another room.
Her voice reached me first. “When’s the last time you fed?”
“I’m fine,” Sin assured her.
“Uh-huh. Liar.”
“I’m not lying.”
“I might believe you if I was blind. But I can see the dark circles under your eyes and the tension around your mouth. You’re hungry.”
“Merri, I am just fine. I fed not long ago, remember? You were there.” Sin’s voice turned playful at the end, and she let out a soft giggle in response.
“Then why don’t you look it? Also, I’ve fed since then. If it’s possible, I think I’m hungrier than ever.”
By now I was just outside the door of the library, able to clearly make both of them out. They were facing each other, Merri with her hands on her hips, Sin with his head cocked as he studied her.
“I’ve noticed that too,” he admitted. “Your appetite seems to grow the more often you feed. Malice said it could be a pseudo addiction after so many years of essentially starving your succubus.”
“I didn’t starve her,” she protested.
“You were living off fumes, kitten. Basically eating a cube of cheese every time you felt like you might pass out. Like that one chick inThe Devil Wears Prada.”
Stepping inside the room, I cleared my throat to let them know I was there. “He’s right, Red.”
Sin preened from where he was standing next to her. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard you. Can you say that again?”
I rolled my eyes. “She’s right too. You look like shit.”
“Rude.”
“Just stating facts.”
“Careful, I can do that too,” he taunted.
