She smiled at the sight of her friends and teammates where they belonged…with her…in their condo. “So, what are we doing today?”

Grace looked crestfallen. “You forgot, didn’t you?”

Oh, shit. What had she forgotten? She tried to race through every conversation she had with the women about today, about when they came home. She couldn’t remember, damn it. That’s when she remembered her dog. “Where’s Damnit?”

“He spent the night with us,” Nita offered. “More appropriately, he spent the night with the kids. He came down with Daniel, who is very unhappy with you right now. Looks like we’re going to have to get the kids a damn dog. They’ll bring him up later.”

She really wanted her dog. He was great company. “Why can’t they bring him up now?”

Tori jumped in. “Because the limousine is outside waiting for us. We were supposed to have already left.”

For where? What the hell were they supposed to be doing?

Covering for the fact she still didn’t remember, she smiled. “Give me three minutes to shower and change.” She looked at what the other women were wearing. Sundresses. Sandals. Makeup. Purses coordinating with their dresses. She could do that.

True to her word, three minutes later she walked out in similar clothing. Clueless as to what they were doing, where they were going, it really didn’t matter. She and her friends were going out.

As soon as they were settled in the back of the limousine, Lei Lu passed out champagne glasses.

“I thought you were headed to Grand Turk?” Katlin asked her.

“I forgot we were going dress shopping today. We’re leaving as soon as we get back.” Lei Lu handed Grace a glass of bubbly. “First glass goes to the bride.” Then she passed out filled flutes to the other women in the car. “To Grace. May we find you the most godawful dress to get into, so Griffin ends up ripping it to get you out.”

Sips were followed by laughter. The wine tasted cool and refreshing but didn’t sit well on Katlin’s empty stomach. Thank Christ she’d grabbed the crackers before she left.

“Ripping it off her would be romantic. Nobody saves those damn wedding dresses anymore.” Tori held her glass high in another toast. “May we find bridesmaids’ dresses that don’t make us look like teenage Southern belles at the debutante ball.”

“Hear, hear.” “I’ll drink to that.”

Katlin raised her glass but did not let the champagne pass her lips. Covertly she reached into her bag and slipped out a cracker, stuffing it into her mouth without being seen.

“Tell us, Grace, what kind of wedding dress are you looking for?” Tori asked.

“Something sexy. You all know the story of my first wedding dress that my mother-in-law picked out. Yuck! The darn thing covered me from my chin to the floor and even part of my hands. She had me covered in veils over my face and running six feet down the aisle.” Grace shrugged. “I want to see what I look like in a strapless. I'd hate to have back boobs or second boobs up front.” She grabbed the skin between her bra strap and arm. “I want something simple…and sexy.”

“Full-length?” Lei Lu asked.

“It’s fucking Georgia. It’s going to be hot as hell and humid as fuck.” Tori went on to explain, “I did a photo shoot in Atlanta in the middle of summer. They had to change my dress three times because I couldn’t stop sweating. They finally let me go back to the hotel, take a shower, and finish the shoot at sunset.” She turned to their friend. “Seriously, Grace, consider something above the knee. We’ll all work on our tans before the wedding, so we don’t have to wear stockings.”

Grace nodded. “Good point.”

Katlin just hoped that Grace would decide the first dress she tried on was perfect and her teammates would find wonderful bridesmaids’ dresses immediately.

CHAPTER4

Later That Morning

The limousine pulled into the parking lot of a bridal shop next door to a tuxedo store. As soon as Nate opened the back door, all the women filed out. Katlin made sure she was last.

“Nate, I don’t care how you do it, but can you find me some breakfast?” She glanced around for a diner or even a fast-food drive-through that offered breakfast. Seeing none, she suggested, “Pay an Uber to have it delivered. I know you’re not allowed to leave the car, and even though we’ll be here quite a while, I know company policy says you cannot leave us here.”

“I’ll be happy to get you some food. What are you thinking? Bacon, eggs, toast?”

“Toast sounds wonderful. Dry if you can get it that way.” None of his other recommendations sounded palatable. “Or a plain bagel would be fine.”

“We have ginger ale in the car. Would you like me to get you one?” The man was an angel. And why hadn’t she thought about the refrigerator in the back?

“Yes, please.” After a moment of consideration, she decided to add to her order. “I have no idea where you’re going to get any of this, but a cup of breakfast tea sounds ideal.”
