“There’s a large subzero freezer in what looks to be an operating room,” Flynn noted.

Clay carefully examined everything visible through the cameras, focusing in on the large stainless-steel freezer.

“Sir, should we identify that as the primary target?” Boomer Steele asked.

“Right now, we’re here to eliminate Jack Ashworth.” Alex’s scan swept down the line of the eight men who stood behind him. “He’s mine.”

Trying to think like Jack, Alex decided that he would already have fertilized Katlin’s eggs with his own sperm. Most likely, they had already divided several times, as was the usual pre-in vitro fertilization methodology. They would already be identified and separated by sex.

“Search and destroy everything you find in that freezer. I don’t care if it’s the nurse’s lunch.” He looked over his shoulder at Flynn. “Any problems with uploading the link to here?”

“No, sir. Clay should be able to access it now,” the former Navy SEAL announced.

His on-site computer genius pointed to the screen on the left. “Information is still downloading.” He glanced at that screen. “It looks as though this is Ashworth’s personal computer. Everything is on the hard drive. He probably never trusted the cloud. Smart man. I can access files from a cloud account in a heartbeat.”

Alex smiled. He employed the best. The company’s computer genius, Bret Reed, had immediately set up several off-site locations to store all the data from their thousands of clients. These were Guardian-owned computer storage devices and facilities. He’d cautioned his new boss to never put anything in the cloud that he didn’t want shared with the world.

Clay was an excellent field man. Not only was he a computer mastermind, but he also understood the electronics needed in the field and could personally install them. The Green Berets had trained him well. The CIA’s cybersecurity school had honed his skills with computers.

The computer chirped. Clay clicked a few keys and smiled up at Alex. “I have access.”

Where the hell to start? “See if you can find out if they have already impregnated any women.”

It was a full minute, the longest minute in Alex’s life, before Clay answered. “No, sir. It seems they have two candidates, but they need to load them up with folic acid and…it looks like they’re not as healthy as the parameters set by the physician. I’m seeing specific dietary meals being prepared for them, each is a little different.”

Alex let out a deep breath.Thank you, God, he silently prayed. Clay continued to talk. “It looks as though they’ve had hundreds of candidates across five different countries. The restrictions changed several different times, as though they weren’t sure what they were looking for in the beginning. After entering South Africa, they’re very specific.”

That made Alex feel even better.

An alarm went off.

“We have a perimeter breach.” Griffin sat down at the long table and started typing on another computer. “What the fuck?” He used the mouse to expand the picture. “Alex. You need to see this. Katlin is breaking into the Ashworth compound.”

“Alone?” Alex stepped closer and leaned toward the screen. “Where the hell is her backup?”

Fuck! They were making their move tonight.

Griffin pulled his phone out of his pocket and logged into the tracking program. He laid his cell on the table while he checked other camera angles around the compound. “I don’t see anyone else. It looks like it’s just Katlin.” Griffin glanced down at his phone. “Grace is still at the U.S. Embassy. From her heart rate, I’d guess she was asleep.”

It looks like it’s just Katlin.Griffin’s words rolled around in Alex’s head.

He pulled out his own phone, not trusting Katlin’s embedded tracker signal, and checked for himself. “This says Katlin is still at the embassy also, but I’ve learned not to trust it.”

Alex squinted at the flat screen then took control of the mouse as the figure in black scooted across the open yard. “That’s not Katlin. That’s Nikkole. Kat doesn’t run like that. She’d stay hidden in all the shadows.” His woman was a much better operative.

“Grace didn’t say anything about Nikkole joining their team for this op.” Griffin looked up at Alex. “Do you want me to text Grace and see if they know that Nikkole is here?”

“No. Don’t wake her up.” Alex glanced at his best friend and second in charge. “Does Grace know you’re here?”

“Hell, no.” Griffin vigorously shook his head side to side. “I didn’t even tell her that we got called out on a mission. I knew you wouldn’t want Katlin to know we were here.”

“Damn straight.” And if Alex had his way, he’d put a bullet in Jack’s forehead before Katlin even entered the compound.

The whole team watched as Nikkole passed from camera to camera inside the house. She stumbled around furniture until she turned on a red penlight. She then found her way to the master bedroom, stripped off her clothes, and crawled naked into bed next to Jack.

The man startled and drew a weapon from under his pillow, pointing it at Nikkole’s head as he sat up. She flipped her penlight to flashlight mode and shined it on her face.

“Jack, sweetheart. I’m here for you,” she said with a big smile. “It’s me. Nikkole, your Katrina. Your little pussy Kat.”
