Alex watched the tracker from his office computer. She seemed to randomly ride the Metro system for nearly an hour and a half. As she got closer to her condominium on Dupont Circle, he pulled up her security cameras. Hoping to catch her there, he grabbed one of the company SUVs and headed across town.

When he arrived, he was thankful she hadn’t changed the codes. As soon as he opened the condo door, he knew she wasn’t there. Her home in D.C. was as empty as his heart. It didn’t look as though her bed had been slept in and there was no sign of the equipment she carried with her when on a mission.

The large condominium with five bedrooms, one for each member of her team, smelled as though it had just been cleaned. To be sure she hadn’t been staying there, he checked the refrigerator. Empty except for condiments.

He’d missed her, if in fact she’d ever been there.

While standing in the middle of the empty condo, his phone rang. “Alex Wolf.”

“They’re wheels up at eleven forty-five.” Griffin’s voice was hesitant, as though he didn’t want to share the information with his boss.

“Target?”

“Unknown.” Griffin huffed out a breath. “I’m hoping Grace will tell me just before they take off.”

Alex worried about Katlin being ready for full duty. Depending on where she was going, he’d feel better if he put together a team and went as backup. Should he ask? Hell, yes. “Will you call me if you find out the target?”

There was silence on the other end of the line for a long minute.

“I’m worried about Katlin being ready for duty.” Alex hoped that information would loosen Griffin’s tongue.

“If they need backup, I’m going,” Griffin announced.

Alex would take that as an affirmative.

He hopped in the company car and headed for Quantico. Perhaps she’d left early. Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed onto the Marine Corps base. Always before he’d had Katlin to get him past the armed gate guards that were over a mile from where their sleek black jet was hangared. Without at least one of the women on her team in his vehicle, he was forced to find a place off base to park.

At exactly eleven-forty, he heard the familiar Rolls-Royce engines scream to life. He looked for the shadow to climb into the night sky.

“Take care of my heart, Katlin. You still have it, and always will.” No one heard Alex’s whispers.

As he was getting back into the SUV, his phone rang. He checked the ID. “Griffin, thanks for calling me.”

“Jack Ashworth.”

What the fuck? “Did you say Jack Ashworth?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Are they supposed to capture him?” Alex was confused.

Griffin chuckled. “You know that’s not what they do. He’s sanctioned.”

Alex slumped into the front seat. “No. That motherfucker’s mine. Put together an Elite team. We’re going hunting.”

CHAPTER11

Four WeeksLater

Katlin was exhausted. They’d been tracking Jack for nearly four weeks, traversing the globe. They’d started at his parents’ house on St. John Island, U.S. Virgin Islands and installed surveillance equipment. He hadn’t returned.

Nor had he touched the numerous new bank accounts he’d established throughout the Caribbean within two weeks after resigning from Section 7. Now that his parents were dead, murdered possibly by him, he was an extremely wealthy man. Not quite a billionaire but close. Too bad he was a dirtbag of the pond scum variety.

No one wanted to see him dead more than Katlin.

Following leads from every alphabet agency inside the Beltway, they’d then visited fertility clinics and specialists in Turkey, Spain, and Czech Republic.

The Ladies gathered around Lei Lu’s computers while they refueled at a U.S. military base in Italy.
