I also know that those men you killed chose their lifestyle the same as you chose yours. I know you don’t kill kids or women. I know you have honor in your heart and loyalty pumping through you.
You’re a bad boy, Bear but you have a good heart.” She rested her hand on my chest and I wondered if she could feel it thumping harder for her. The more I was around Cecily the more I felt my heart doing somersaults and backflips for her. I’d tear down the universe and reconstruct it star by star if it would make her happy and I got to see those dimples.
“Well shit, if you said it, then it must be true.” We shared a kiss then I pulled away and groaned. “I can’t believe Lane is my fucking mother.” I pictured her face in my mind trying to map out the ways we looked alike.
“I know. It’s fucking insane. It makes sense though. I told you last week she kept asking about you and she kept talking like she knew so much more about your family than I thought she did. Now I know why.” Cecily reached up to touch my hair. “I’m so sorry everything is happening like this.” She paused in the middle of talking and held her finger up. “How did Mom end up telling you about Lane?”
“She slipped up. She had a mental lapse when she thought she was saying something in her head but she said it out loud. She said she couldn’t believe my father was coming home and she wondered if he bothered to call my mother. Which makes me wonder if he’s reached out to her during all these years.”
“I’m sure he has. He had to have feelings for her to have a kid with her. Plus he lets Mom work here knowing they’re best friends. Mr. Griffon probably still loves her.”
“I don’t think he knows how to love.”
“You didn’t thinkyouknew how to love either, Bear. You seem to be doing pretty good though.” If she thought I was good at being in love then I was doing something right.
“I don’t even want to think about this shit right now,” I sighed. Luckily, as if life knew it was time to continue spinning, my phone rang. I pulled it from my pocket and pressed it to my ear. “What’s up, Ace?” I quizzed, lowering my brows.
“You home? I need a meeting.”
“I’m here. I’m sure you knew that though. You’re outside, aren’t you?”
“Yeah. I am.” I walked to the foyer and opened the double doors before ending the call.
“Ace, something must be wrong if you just showed up.”
“Nothing is wrong per se. I need to talk to you. Actually, everyone needs to talk to you and I’m kind of the liaison.” Ace shot a blue gaze over to Cecily and nodded at her. “What’s up, dimples?” She grinned and waved at him as usual. “Can we go to the study?”
I nodded and we headed inside and had a seat. Cecily sat at my right hand and it felt good to have her there. I felt anchored to the world as long as she was beside me.
“Dimples, you part of the fam now?”
“I’ve been a part of it longer than you, Ace.” Her smile was so fucking cocky I had to control the urge to grab her pretty little face and bite her lips while I fed her my tongue. I cleared my throat and shoved all the nasty thoughts to the back of my mind.
“Touché, dimples. I see you got a little bite with you. I’m sure Bear wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Yeah, I like bite.” I said, gripping the back of Cecily’s neck. I watched the way her lashes fluttered and I wondered how wet her pussy was getting for me. “So what’s up, Ace?”
“Ninety-percent of the guys want to know if you’re breaking off from Griff when he gets home. I know he’s your pop and…this is at the risk of sounding disloyal to the organization but we’ll only follow your lead, Bear. There were a handful of soldiers who were ready for Griff to come home. Everyone else refuses to follow anyone but you. I’m included in that group.
You’ve been good to me. Took me in when my motorcycle club booted me and tried to kill me. You granted me asylum when I know your father would’ve handed me over as long as they cut him a deal.
You’re like a brother. I’ll protect you and this organization until they put a bullet in me. That protection extends to you too, Dimples.”
Cecily lit up with a smile and thanked him. I reached across my desk and shook Ace’s hand firmly.
“Thank you, Ace. Can you get me the names of the guys ready for my father’s return?”
“Already got them.” He smiled and slid a folded piece of paper across my desk. Six names were written on it. “Want me to take care of them?”
“Nah, I’ll handle it. I need to get a little gritty. I just got some news that has me a little fucked up. I need some stress relief.”
“You got it, Bear.”
“Thank you. How’s the heroin moving after the shipment?” I quizzed.
“Um, you might want to re-up soon. That shit is top-shelf and it’s moving fast as hell. Those Columbians are the real deal.”
“Good to know. I’ll give them a call later.” Ace stood and nodded at me. I knew he had to go and I knew he had business to take care of so I didn’t try to hold him.
