“Mom, do you need me to take you home?” Cecily asked while she wrapped her mother in a tender hug.
“No, your father is right outside. You know that man never misses a chance to drive me home.”
“Okay, well if you need me, let me know and I’ll come straight home.”
“I know you will, sweetheart. Right now, I think I want to spend some time with Paul. I like knowing you’re right here. I know Bear will take care of you.” She gave me a look that said I’d better take care of her daughter. I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to do though.
A new world was taking shape for me and Cecily was the center of it. I never entertained the idea of settling down because I didn’t think it was possible. Now that I knew it was, I only had my eyes on one person. She was the light that chased away everything I thought would always remain dark.
“Okay well, text me later, please,” Cecily sighed, rubbing Luanne’s shoulder.
“Bear, I’m sorry about the way things came out today.” She shook her head remorsefully. After the way Cecily sucked my dick moments earlier, my mood was permanently lifted though. I couldn’t find a reason to be mad. Not at Luanne and not at my mother. They were victims snared in my father’s wicked web. If it weren’t for him, none of this shit would have happened.
I hugged Luanne and kissed her forehead. She was the last person I needed to hold a grudge against. I was annoyed with her secret-keeping but I’d move past it. I’d get over my mother keeping secrets too. I wouldn’t get over my father threatening the lives of women. I’d never look past him threatening the mother of his child and forcing me away from her for my entire life. That was a symptom of him being a sadistic, narcissistic motherfucker.
“Take the day off. Let me have time to get past this shit and come back in the morning.” She nodded at me then walked out of the door.
Cecily glanced at me with wild eyes that made me laugh uncontrollably. Probably because I knew exactly what she was going to say.
“Oh my god, I sucked your dick while my mother was in the kitchen and my father was outside in the driveway.”
“Yes, you did and you did a fucking fantastic job. You got a little cum on your chin though.” I pointed at her face and she gasped rushing to the mirror.
“You asshole, there’s nothing on my chin!” She slapped my bicep and I laughed, grabbing her in my arms. I couldn’t explain why but my life felt lighter once I knew my mother was alive. It was an instantaneous feeling of relief.
I was glad I sent Luanne home and I was glad Cecily stuck around because I talked her fucking ear off about Lane…aboutmy mother. Every time I thought I was done, more words spilled out. They were words of frustration, confusion, and regret. They were murderous words toward my father and nostalgic words towards my mother.
I drudged up every memory of Lane I could. I recalled the memories of every time she touched me even in passing. A stray hug here and there, a pat on the back, or tousling my hair. I hadn’t even realized that I collected all those memories of her. Cecily helped me piece together mental pictures of my mother. I was still in awe after having hours to sit with the news.
The only thing that pulled me out of my own mind was when my cell phone rang. It was a number I didn’t recognize but I answered it anyway. I was glad I did.
“Bear, what’s up man?” I already knew who the voice belonged to. It was deep and husky and the Columbian accent was unmistakable.
“Tito, everything is good. I was just getting ready to call you. What can I do for you?”
“You were going to call me?” He chuckled. “You having trouble moving that weight?”
“Nah, quite the opposite.” I leaned forward, resting an elbow on my desk. “It’s moving faster than I expected.
“That’s great news. I was calling to set up a time to have dinner with you and your lovely girlfriend. It’s been a long time since I actually liked one of my connects. You and Cecily are charming. I want to talk business and break bread. No army. No men. Just me. Just you.”
“Okay, Tito. I can do that. When do you want to have dinner? I can have my housekeeper cook something.”
“Tonight is good for me.” I knew from experience that you didn’t turn down an invitation like that so I made the decision to push back all my meetings for the evening and meet with Tito.
“Tonight is good for me too. Look forward to seeing you.”
“Thank you. Send me your information.” We ended the call and I looked at Cecily. “Let’s go shopping, baby doll. We have dinner tonight with the main Columbian connect. I think he might come in handy with the plan for my father.”
“Oh, really?” She walked and sat in my lap where she belonged.
“Yeah. If I can secure him as a permanent heroin connect I only need to secure weed, coke, and pills. I think I can win over Dad’s current connects.”
“Then you take over after that, right?”
“Right,” I nodded. “You ready to be at my side during all this? It’s not like whatever the fuck they do on TV. We’re not in an episode of Power.”
“I know that,” she laughed. “I’m ready, Bear. I’ve come all this way. Plus, wherever you are is where I want to be. Now, when we go shopping…can I buy whatever I want?”
