“Be mad. Trust me.” I watched him tuck his dick away. It was still glistening with me. The urge to clean it with my tongue was so strong. “Come on, I’ll tell you everything.” He bent down and scooped me into his arms like I weighed nothing. “Your neck okay?” He asked once he sat me down on his bed.

“It hurts but every time it throbs, my pussy does too so…win-win.” I shrugged.

“I punctured you. I didn’t tear your skin. I never tear.”

“So you use your fangs gently. Good Bear,” I purred, climbing into his lap.

“Good Bear, huh?” He slapped my ass and kissed my lips. “I think I like hearing you talk your shit, Cecily.”

“Tell me what happened with your father.” I pushed the hair out of his face and he sighed.

“He wants to fuck you.” My mind took a moment to absorb what he was saying.

“Me?” I pressed my hand to my chest with wide eyes. “Why me?”

“Because he’s a fucking pervert and because I told him you were my woman. Now he wants me to prove my loyalty and prove that I’m not being like Hawk and choosing a woman over my family. It’s bullshit. It’s not happening.”

“Bear, what are you going to do? I mean…I’m not fucking him. Absolutely not. I’m all for a good daddy fetish but…no.” Bear didn’t laugh at my joke. I sighed and tousled his short locs. “I’m not going to fuck your father. Is that what you’re worried about?”

“No. I know you’re not willingly going to fuck him. You’re not willingly fucking anyone besides me for the rest of your life.” His words were so swift and weighty that they stole my breath away. “I’m worried about what he might do once you turn him down. I’m worried about him doing it before I can kill him.”

“Wait…what?” I stood up and looked at Bear like he was insane. “Your father is a fucking kingpin. If you kill him do you know how much heat you’ll bring down on your head?”

“I don’t care,” he grumbled. “He’s not touching you, Cecily. That’s the long and short of it.”

“You’re serious, aren’t you?”

“When am I evernotserious?”

If that didn’t scream love, I didn’t know what else would. It was almost as touching as if he got down on one knee. “Should I be really emotional over this?” I asked, blinking away budding tears.

“Over me killing my father?” He frowned.

“No. Over you doing it for me.” Bear was quiet for a few beats then he looked at me and chuckled.

“So all this time you’ve been as dark and fucked up as me and I’m over here thinking you’re an angel.”

“I’m an angel with dark wings,” I smiled softly.

He reached out and pulled me against his body. “Promise me you’ll do what I tell you to do. Don’t think twice. Just know that no other man will ever touch you again and any man that I put around you is family.” I nodded my head and then listened to what Bear’s plan was. It was going to be tough following along but if it meant I’d stay out of harm’s way I would do it.

BEAR

Time moved too slowly and too fast at the same time. Since I was on a somewhat normal sleeping routine with Cecily by my side, it felt like I didn’t get enough business taken care of. Luckily, once Luanne was back in the house, she helped things run smoother.

The neurologist diagnosed her with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and immediately put her on a treatment plan that included cognitive improving medicine, meditation, and an exercise routine. Cecily and I made sure she woke up every day for a week straight and did yoga. She was vigilant about it because once she found out Dad was coming home, she didn’t want him to see her mind failing. I assured her that he wouldn’t find out and that I’d keep her safe but nothing could shake the uncertainty she had when it came to Dad.

After her yoga session, she found me in the study reading business emails. She came in to dust but that wasn’t on her schedule until much later. I didn’t point it out, I just watched her from behind a haze of gray cigar smoke.

“I know, Bear,” she muttered as she ran a microfiber cloth along the sculptures. I just wanted to get this out of the way.”

“Hey, I was going to let you do your thing, Luanne.” I held my hands up and chuckled. She looked at me over her shoulder and sighed heavily.

“I can’t believe he’s really coming home. It’s been seven long years. I wonder if he even bothered to call your mother. I’m sure even if he did, she wouldn’t have told me.” She realized her mistake the moment it left her mouth. She blinked rapidly and cleared her throat but there was no covering that shit up. It was too late. The words were in the air.

I extinguished my cigar and paused the music. “Luanne, I’m going to ask you a question and I don’t want you to pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. Don’t lie to me either, understand?” I pressed the tips of my fingers together and caught her timid gaze. She nodded quickly and I inhaled.

“Is my mother alive?”
