I finished putting the bed together while Solo talked on the phone to Amaris. I could hear her sister all the way through the damn phone when she told her about the shop being vandalized and running into Vince. Shit, hearing it all over again made my anger flare up too.

I had every intention of finding that motherfucker. I had to wait until Solo calmed down and felt better first. She was my main priority. Well, now that Malachi was with us, he was my main priority too.

Once the mattress was on the frame, I laid down for a minute and checked my phone. I had forty-two missed calls from my mother.

Forty-fucking-two.

She’d been calling and texting me all day. I made the choice right there in bed to block her ass. I didn’t have anything to say to her. What she did to Solana’s shop was the last fucking straw as if I needed one.

Seeing her beautiful face crumble when she realized what had been done to her studio, made me sad for her. Sun Goddess was such a warm and welcoming place and it was starting to take off too. I knew it was just a hiccup but that shit still hurt. I knew all the hard work and effort she put into the place daily and to see it destroyed was devastating.

Once I was done, scrolling through my phone, I put a sheet on the bed and went into the kitchen, passing Solo on the couch. She was still trying to talk Amaris down. Right after I grabbed a bottle of water, someone rang the doorbell like the damn police.

“What the fuck?” Solana mouthed to me, holding the phone away from her face. I shrugged and went to answer it.

I should have known exactly who to expect on the other side.

It was my mother.

She looked like shit and she was wearing a hospital bracelet around her wrist. I noticed because she held her hand up for me to see. “What do you want?” I groaned, rubbing my temples.

“Ezra, you need to come home. I’m sick. I know you still love me because you sent the police to the house yesterday. You wouldn’t have done that if you didn’t care about my safety.”

“Oh my god, is that your mother?” Solana said from the couch.

“Yeah. Unfortunately,” I grumbled.

“Amaris, I gotta go.” I heard Solo’s footsteps rapidly approaching and all I could do was move out of the way. Mom picked the wrong fucking time to come over for a visit. I wasn’t going to do a damn thing to stop Solana either. Not after the fucked up day she had.

“Why the fuck are you at my house? You want to pay someone to put a brick through my front window over here too?” She seethed. I stood off to the side and put my hands in my pockets. I was going to watch the show.

“Excuse me? I don’t know what you’re talking about. I came here to get my son back.”

“Your son isn’t going anywhere with you. He can’t stand to look at you and I don’t blame him. You’re a piece of fucking trash. I gave the police your name so now it’s only a matter of time before they connect your stupid ass to the vandalism.”

“I didn’t vandalize anything. You’re mistaken.” I knew the minute she opened her mouth that she was lying because I knew what she looked like when she lied.

She definitely did that shit.

“Whatever. Get off my property before I call the police,” Solana snapped.

“Ezra, come home. I’m sick. I don’t know how much longer I have and…”

“You’re sick but unfortunately, you’re not terminal. Now leave. I told you he’s not going anywhere. I don’t know what kind of sick relationship you want with your son but you can cut that shit out now.” She slammed the door in Mom’s face and I covered my mouth with my fist trying to hide the fact that I was laughing at the entire scene. I knew right then wasn’t the time for laughing but I couldn’t help it. I’d never seen her so furious.

“Ezra, are you laughing?” She frowned.

“Yeah. My bad. I just…” I shook my head and laughed even more. I laughed until my sides hurt and eventually, Solana laughed with me. It was good to see her with a smile on that gorgeous face.

“I think she’s still out there,” I said once the wave of hysterical laughter passed.

“She can sleep on the porch for all I give a fuck. As long as she doesn’t bring her ass in this house.” Solana walked past me and I grabbed her waist walking in step with her.

“Your energy is crazy right now. Come upstairs with me and let’s meditate.”

“I want to sleep,” she pouted.

“Nah. We’re going to set you straight. How’s your stomach?” I stretched my fingers across her toned stomach and she sighed.
