“Can’t argue with that.”
“You two hungry? I can make something to eat.” I set my purse down and stretched my hands above my head. Both men looked at me but Bear averted his eyes to his phone while Titan lingered. It perplexed me how someone as ruthless as Bear could have such poise.
“I’ll take whatever you make,” Bear told me.
“You need help?” Titan’s words held a double meaning and I knew it so I nodded quickly. He excused himself and we went into the kitchen together. The moment our feet crossed the threshold, he tackled me and pinned my body against the wall while I laughed like a madwoman.
His lips found the pulse beneath my skin. He kissed my neck so slowly it made my bones ache. “I missed the way your skin tastes,” he told me.
“I miss you tasting me,” I smiled.
“Don’t talk like that, darling. Might fuck around and get your pussy devoured right here on the counter.”
“We have company. Be polite.” I tapped the tip of his nose and he grabbed my hand then bit my finger playfully.
“When I’m hungry, I expect you to feed me.” He slapped my ass and I yelped at the spike of pain. Titan always hit me hard enough for me not to question him but soft enough not to scare me.
“I will. Later,” I told him. I moved to the refrigerator and started taking things out to make cold cuts.
“I’m holding you to that. When the sun goes down and I have blood on my hands again…will you still let me taste you?”
“Titan, I’d let you do anything to me at any time. I told you, I know your heart.” I touched his silky black hair and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his lips.
“That’s why I love you no matter who says I’m not supposed to.”
“Go play with your friend. I’ll be out there with food.”
“Shit, you make me feel like a little kid,” Titan laughed.
I watched his strong back as he walked out of the kitchen and my thighs pulsed. Tonight couldn’t come soon enough.
I took my time making sandwiches for the guys because I liked listening to them laugh and talk shit in the living room. It was good to see Titan enjoying himself. I wanted that for both of us going forward. I wanted us to enjoy life together. I wanted us to have friends and raise a family without the judgment of everyone piercing us like daggers.
I carried cold cuts to the living room and sat them on the coffee table along with chips and cold bottles of water. “Thank you, Ivy.” Bear nodded at me and paused the game to eat. It was like having a damn celebrity in my house. It was so strange. I’d heard about Bear so much, especially in the past month, that seeing him up close and personal was fascinating. I wanted to pick his brain and ask him all sorts of things.
Instead of being annoying, I sat beside Titan on the couch and crossed my legs. He placed his hand on my thigh and gripped it tight while he carried on a normal conversation with Bear. I loved the way he loved me out loud. He didn’t hide. He didn’t care what anyone said. I, on the other hand, couldn’t stop worrying. I decided right then and there with Titan’s strong hand gripping my thigh that I wouldn’t care anymore either.
Yes, we had a forbidden love.
No, it wasn’t conventional or morally right.
It was what we wanted though and going against the heart wasn’t something I wanted to do.
…
When the sun started to dip lower and lower in the sky, Bear and Titan stopped their game of Madden and the air turned to ice. I’d never felt the mood of a room shift so quickly. Bear stood to his feet and so did Titan.
“I’m going to move my car. Ivy, is there somewhere on the property where I can park out of sight?” Bear quizzed. I blinked a few times, trying to get my thoughts together then I stood up and walked with him outside. When Titan didn’t follow behind us, I knew he trusted Bear.
“I’ll ride with you because it’s tough to explain. Is that okay?” I felt myself slipping back into anxiety. Bear screamed authority and I wanted to shrink myself in his presence…especially without Titan there.
“I’m not evil, Ivy.” He reached over and opened the door for me and I got in. I stayed stiff as a statue while the quiet motor purred to life. Jazz flowed through the speakers taking me completely by surprise.
“You listen to jazz?” I asked.
“Yeah. Calms my nerves.” He backed out of the driveway and I pointed him toward Bayou Drive. “Where we headed?”
“There’s a dirt road after you drive past these willow trees right here.” I pointed out the path and he slowed the car down.
