CHAPTER TEN
“I wanna take you somewhere, baby girl. I don’t want you to think I’m being funny or anything just promise you’ll ride with me.” He said that like I had something better to do than to ride with him. Riding beside Titan was the best feeling in the world. It was stomach fluttering, heart-pounding good. I loved watching the way he gripped the steering wheel when he bent corners. I loved the way his gold link chain caught the sun and threw it back in the air like bursts of starlight. It all made me tingle inside. I felt like a little kid.
The sun was warm on my face but it could have also been that I was sitting so close to Titan and he was everything to me. Soaking him up was just as beneficial as getting my daily dose of sunshine. I touched the ends of his hair, letting each braid slip through my fingers like black silk.
“I need to do your hair again,” I said noting the fine frizz starting to appear along his cornrows.
“I don’t know if we’re going to make it through me sitting between your legs while you braid my hair, darling. I’m gonna keep stopping so I can eat your pussy.”
Oh god. When he said things like that it set me on fire and I burned so slowly it made me ache. I’d be aching until I could feel him inside of me again. I’d been with several guys before but being with Titan topped the list. Being with him felt right and romantic and nasty. It was all the things it should have been. I was able to be myself with him and not feel like I had to pretend.
While my other boyfriends thought they were handing me orgasms left and right, they were only kind of hitting the mark. I usually had to finish myself off. Not with Titan.
He hit marks I didn’t even know I needed to be hit. I came so hard I saw stars when I was with him. A lot of it was because of how much I loved him though. The feeling in my chest took me to amazing heights when he was between my thighs.
I snapped back to reality when the engine cut off. We were in front of a small candy shop called Treasure Chest. I was amazed.
Outside the shop, were tall coolers with striped awnings and signs that readAuthentic Cream Soda. Why had I never thought to sell soda in Honey Sugar? Probably because Mama was in control of what was sold.
“You wanna check it out?” He asked, opening my car door. I looked around with wide eyes.
“Of course. You thought I wouldn’t want to?”
“I didn’t know if you’d be offended. I didn’t want you to think I was telling you how to run your business.” After digging through the files Mama left behind, I found her will. She left Honey Sugar to me and attached to the document with a pink sticky was a note from her to keep Daddy out of the business.
Ivy Lynn,
I know you’re sad and angry with me. I know everything I leave you will be scrutinized repeatedly but if I don’t make anything crystal clear to you, let me explicitly say this: Do not let Beau near Honey Sugar ever again. He’s run that business into the ground. I’m leaving it solely to you because I know you’ll revive it, my love.
She trusted me to bring Honey Sugar back to where it should have been. It was a bittersweet message but I took it to heart no matter how mad I was at her for leaving me the way she did.
I was going to use that trip to the Treasure Chest candy shop to open my eyes to the possibilities that were available to me. When we walked through the door, the scent of sugar hit my nose like a familiar friend. It still didn’t smell as heavenly as Honey Sugar though. Nothing beat home.
“Shadow?” The girl behind the counter lit up at the sight of Titan walking through the door but why wouldn’t she? He was gorgeous.
The girl had short brown hair and big brown eyes to match. Her smile grew wider with each step he took toward the counter. “What’s going on?” He drawled, leaning on the glass counter with one elbow. He had so much swagger in everything he did it was immeasurable. Even the smallest most mundane thing seemed like it was the pinnacle of fly.
“Oh my god, I haven’t seen you in more than a year.” She squeaked and bounced around the counter. I saw her going in for a hug and my feathers ruffled.
No. They stood on end.
I angled my body in the path of her oncoming embrace and smiled softly. My sharp claws were coated in southern charm. I wasn’t rude but I’d be damned if I was going to stand there while she mashed her full breasts against Titan’s chest and smiled against his neck, drawing in his scent.
That wasmyjob.
“Oh…” She stepped back and straightened her apron. It was pristine. It didn’t need to be straightened at all but she needed something to do with herself since I interfered with her hug. Titan chuckled a little and nodded at her.
“Yeah, long time no see. Zoey, this is Ivy, my lady.” The way his tone caressed that simple yet weighty title made shivers race down my spine. He was introducing me as his lady.
His.
Not his cousin.
Not just Ivy.
My mouth went dry. Bone dry. It was a strange mixture of pride and fear that occupied my mind and refused to let go.
“Oh my god, she’s so pretty. I’m sorry. I didn’t know.” The girl apologized all over herself. She wasn’t without claws sheathed in southern charm either. Even though she was being sweet as pie, I heard the bitterness running like green veins of envy beneath her words.
