“It is but I get it.” Cadence pouted a little and rested her chin on her fist. “Okay, I guess I should start with his height.”
My lips twisted to the side and I smirked. I couldn’t help it. She laughed at me until she damn near choked for having an over the top list. Now she was using my over the top list for inspiration.
Funny how things work sometimes.
…
MAXWELL
When I walked Sadie to her door, I leaned over and kissed her cheek instead of going in for the kill. If I did that, I’d never get the woman off my line. It also earned me points with her. We weren’t serious by any means but I wasn’t a savage that went straight for the pussy. I liked to wine and dine and have a good time with the women I chose. Companionship was just as important as sex. Now, I didn’t plan on committing to Sadie or any other woman but I hadsomecouth.
Sadie blushed when I kissed the back of her hand and slowly backed away from her.
“Have a good night, beautiful,” I said.
“Max, wait. You can come in for a few minutes if you want to.” She batted those long lashes at me. They were quality lashes. I didn’t know much about women and what they did to their faces to make them look so perfect but I knew I hated those clumpy lashes that made them look like muppets on Sesame Street. Sadie’s lashes didn’t look like that.
Her skin was smooth and the same color of tea with a splash of milk and her long hair fell down her back. She had an amazing body too. Not one thing on her had been injected or sliced. She was all-natural, just the way I liked them.
“Nah, I told you sweetheart, next time I’ll come in. Trust me, it’ll be worth the wait.” I winked at her and she pressed her hand to her chest.
“Okay then. How about we have another date tomorrow? This is date number two and I’m dying to see if you’re as smooth in bed as you are when we go out.”
“I am. No need to wonder. I’ll show and prove soon.”
“You’re so arrogant,” she laughed, tossing a thick curtain of sandy brown hair over her shoulder. She was trying entirely too hard to coax me into her house but I wasn’t budging. She was almost where I wanted her. When I fucked Sadie, I wanted her to throw herself at me mercilessly. I wanted her to beg for the dick even though there would be no commitment.
It stroked my ego.
“You must like it though. You’re smiling,” I noted.
“Because you’re so damn chocolate and fine. You sure you don’t want to come in?” She batted her lashes at me again. I declined again.
I left her once I made sure she got in the house safely then I drove home. I knew the moment I got to the eighth floor, Kyle would sense me and snatch her door open like she wasn’t waiting for me to show up. The thought both amused and annoyed me.
That was my relationship with Kyle though. I wouldn’t call it a friendship but I wouldn’t say I hated her either. You don’t watch movies all night with someone you hate. She was just…annoying. Like a bumblebee. We need them for the environment but if they get too close, you still swat them away.
“Hey, Max. It’s pretty late for you to just be getting in,” Mark, the concierge smirked when I walked through the double glass doors of the Avant.
“But it’s not too late for you to be minding my business, Mark. Have a good night.” I walked past and ignored his disgruntled muttering. He could sit there and gossip back and forth with Kyle all day. I wasn’t going to indulge. He spread the tenants’ business like he worked for Naima atThe Tea.
I walked down the hall and stepped on the elevator. I wondered for a brief moment if I’d be able to sneak into my apartment without Kyle spotting me. It was worth a try.
I stepped into the hall when the elevator doors opened and looked across the hall at Kyle’s door. The palms of my hands burned to turn the knob but I refrained. Then, I heard laughter erupt and my interest was piqued. Maybe that’s why Kyle hadn’t rushed into the hall to ask how my date went. She had guests.
I straightened my silk tie and produced the spare key to her apartment. It was on my key ring right next to my own.
It was supposed to only be for emergencies but I used it as I saw fit. Right then, I saw fit.
When I walked in, I saw Kyle and Naima as usual but there was a new face seated beside Naima. A new honey-brown face with a nice smile.
All three ladies looked at me when I walked in, as they should have. Barkley rushed over to me, standing on his hind legs, begging for pets. I couldn’t deny the dog.
“Ah, Max I should have known your date tonight would end early. It’s a full moon. I’m sure she didn’t want you to see her transform.” I looked up from Barkley and glared at Kyle.
“Kyle, are you going to introduce me to your friend?” I asked, ignoring her cheap shot at Sadie.
“No. She’s a human, Max. You remember those, right? They chased you out of the last town you lived in with torches and pitchforks.” Kyle’s new friend looked horrified at our banter, but she still smiled. I liked her.
