I knew I was giving her the kind of dick that made women go crazy and I knew she was giving me the kind of pussy that made men get down on one knee. She didn’t hold back anything. It was more than sex. It was more than fucking around or saying we were in a relationship but not being serious.
We were serious.
I stroked her hair while she snored softly with her head on my shoulder. It felt right waking up with her tucked against me like that. I didn’t want to ever wake up without her. The thought was sobering as hell.
Even though I vowed to never put my heart on the line again, I was doing it. I was opening myself up to get hurt and betrayed again. The thought of Kyle fucking me over made my chest ache. I couldn’t fathom it but she was no more or less human than my ex and she betrayed the fuck out of me.
I’d been sleeping next to Kyle for weeks. We’d been around each other non-stop and while outside of the bedroom it was no different than how we normally interacted, everything we did felt different. I couldn’t explain it if I tried.
You can explain it perfectly. You don’t want to admit what’s happening.
I gritted my teeth against the annoying voice in my head and wondered if it sounded like Nathaniel or if it sounded like me and I sounded like him. Regardless, it had been two weeks since Kyle asked me to talk to him when I got the chance and I made sure I never had the chance. Of course she called me on it every damn time.
I leaned over to kiss her forehead and she fidgeted around in her sleep, turning over and poking her ass out. I checked the time and saw I had ten minutes before my alarm went off. I didn’t even have to go to work today but my body was trained to get up anyway. I decided to get up, walk Barkley and grab some food for breakfast from the grocery store. Lately, Kyle had been throwing down in the kitchen and I wanted to show my appreciation.
She didn’t move a muscle when I got up. She didn’t budge when I got dressed either. Barkley met me in the kitchen though. He knew what time it was.
I grabbed his leash and we headed to the dog park. The minute I set foot outside, my phone rang. It was early as hell.
“Hello?” I pressed my ear to the phone and let Barkley run free since there was nobody else at the park.
“Hey, Max. I knew you’d be up early.” Tiana’s voice purred through the other end and I froze.
What the fuck was she doing calling me? I hadn’t spoken to her much since we fucked in her car. We said our passing hellos at work but that was it. I thought she moved on and forgot all about me but that tone in her voice told me otherwise.
“Tiana? Why are you calling me?”
“Damn, that’s how you treat me? Wow. I was hoping for a warmer reception.”
“Why? We haven’t talked in more than a month.”
“Because I woke up with good dick on the brain and guess whose face popped into my head. It doesn’t have to be anything heavy between us but I can’t lie and say I don’t want to have another taste.”
“I’m sorry, Tiana,” I sighed, rubbing my forehead. “We can’t fuck around anymore.”
“Why not? Is it because I work in the office with you?” She quizzed. I heard the underlying attitude in her voice and I was glad I’d only fucked her once. After being with Kyle and allowing her to teach me a few things about how women thought and felt, I saw how wrong I was for fucking women and leaving them high and dry. If anyone did that to Kyle, I’d be ready to knock their fucking teeth in.
“No, it’s not that. I’m in a relationship and I’m extremely faithful.” After getting cheated on, the last thing I’d ever want to do was be the cheater.
“A relationship?” She laughed out the words. “Not you. Not Mr. I’m-only-good-for-sex. If you didn’t want to hook up again that’s all you had to say. You don’t have to make up lies.”
“I said what I had to say, Tiana. It’s not my fault you don’t believe me. I don’t have a reason to lie to you. I stuck my dick in you once. You think I have emotions invested in that exchange enough to lie to you? Nah.” I snapped my fingers for Barks and he scurried over. I made sure to pick up behind him while I listened to Tiana curse me out on the other end.
“Okay. Nice talking to you. I’ll see you in the office on Monday.” I ended the call and shook my head. That’s what happened when you doled out good dick to undeserving women. Happened to the best of us.
I took Barkley with me to the car and we headed to the grocery store for breakfast food. “What do you think, Barks? Sausage, omelets and fruit?” He blew out a puff of air through his cold wet nose and I took it as a yes.
I left the windows down for him while I ran into the store. It didn’t take me long to get everything I needed. I even picked up a bag of pink Starbursts for Kyle because the bowl on her coffee table was running low. On my way through check out, I thought about the phone call with Tiana and realized I hadn’t touched base with Sadie either. I didn’t want to give her any reason to come around anymore. I was done with any woman that wasn’t Kyle.
I was really serious about her. I figured anyone that made my heart race and my body buzz the way she did was worth every bit of time and attention I could muster. So when I got back in the car, I called Sadie. Her voice filtered sleepily through the speakers and I cringed when I remembered how early it was.
“Max? Jesus, what time is it?” She asked groggily.
“I’m sorry, Sadie. I didn’t pay attention to what time it was. I can call you back later and let you go back to sleep.”
“No, no. It’s fine. I was wondering when I was going to hear back from you. You must have come to your senses and stopped playing with whatever little toy you decided was more interesting than me.” I could hear the lazy, arrogant smile in her voice.
“That’s not it exactly. I wanted to call and let you know we won’t be picking up where we left off. I’m with someone.” The words didn’t feel weird coming out of my mouth anymore. My chest actually swelled with pride at the thought of cutting off everyone else for Kyle.
