“Okay, popcorn and Netflix.” Max sat a huge white bowl of popcorn with extra butter on the coffee table then sat beside me. The buttery smell made my stomach growl.

“I thought you were working tonight, Max?” I lifted an eyebrow at him and he shrugged.

“I have a little extra time so why not spend it with the less fortunate?”

“Fuck you,” I quipped, stealing a handful of popcorn from the bowl.

We decided on a movie and settled in beside each other. Max and I sat up watching movie after movie until my eyelids were so heavy, I could barely keep them open. Barkley was passed out beside me snoring and Max’s mouth was hanging open.

“Max, wake up. I’m dozing off and you’re giving me nightmares.”

“Shit. I didn’t mean to fall asleep. I know you like to sleep in your coffin at night.” I slipped and let a laugh out before shoving him. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Kyle. If you run another date off, I’ll be back to hear all the details.”

“Wait, don’tyouhave a date tomorrow?” I quizzed. For some reason, women flocked to Max. Maybe it was because he was tall as fuck, at least two heads taller than me, he was also dark as night with the most beautiful smile and a pair of mahogany eyes that annoyingly saw through everything.

Max wasfine.

His attitude killed it though. He was painfully arrogant and unwaveringly sure of himself in a way that should have turned most women off. Somehow he stayed with gorgeous dates though. They had to be airheads.Had to be.

The other option is that they were after him for his money and clout. Max was a financial advisor to some big names in DC. With that came a lot of attention and his conceited ass soaked up every drop.

“I do. You know, women can’t resist me.” He winked at me and I curled my top lip in disgust. I shooed him out of my apartment while his deep silky laugh filled my ears.

After I locked the door, I went to my room and fell on the bed with a sigh. I had two more dates set up for the week. Luckily, I had nothing for tomorrow. That left time to plan.

I rolled over, pulled out my planner, and wrote down the names of my future dates. I had Jeremy on Wednesday and Austin on Friday. I met them both on a dating app. I hit it off with them and we talked respectively off and on for a couple of weeks.

I was always upfront about what I was looking for when it came to dates. At thirty years old, I didn’t have time to waste being nice and pretending to enjoy myself. Grant learned that tonight and it would be the same with any other man I chose to date until I found the right man.

“Hey girl, did Max leave?” Naima poked her head in my room and looked at me with big pretty eyes.

“Yeah, he left. I’m in here scheduling my dates for the rest of the week.”

“I still don’t know how you do that,” Naima drew her shoulders in and walked over to my bed.

“Do what? Date?”

“Yes. You date like it’s your part-time job.”

“How else am I going to find Mr. Right?” I asked her.

“Let him find you.” Naima was so cute. Let him find me. I let out a laugh and shook my head.

“Yeah okay, girl. You can’t hope and wish for something to come to you. If you want something then you have to go out and get it.” I closed my planner and looked at her. “I want to become a millionaire so I work my ass off. I want to become partner one day so I bust my behind daily. If I want to find the right man I have to go out and look for him. He’s not going to knock on my door.”

“I guess so, Kyle. Just try dating like a normal person and not someone with OCD.”

“I date like a normal person. I just have a checklist and I check off the boxes as the dates progress. Some men make it past the first and second date. Some men don’t.”

“What I want to know is who makes it to the bedroom because your bed hasn’t seen any action since I’ve lived here.” Naima eyed my bed with a smirk on her face and I rolled my eyes.

I was very particular about who I had sex with. Not everyone was worthy of my magical pussy. I didn’t just sprinkle that shit on everyone because once a man got a taste he would be hooked. I couldn’t unleash that power on just anyone.

“Mind your business, Naima. I can’t be like you and open my bedroom to all the strays.”

“Oh, please. I’m sexually free. Unlike you, Kyle.” She stuck her tongue out at me and then ran out of the room before I launched a pillow at her big ass head.

Being sexually free didn’t serve my objective, which was to fall in love with a man who actually met my standards. I didn’t ask for much. It shouldn’t have been that hard. Reality proved me wrong left and right though.
