She was a pain in my ass though. It was insane to think about her in any other light. She was boisterous, picky, and she acted more like a man than my boys. I glanced at Kyle as she smacked on her favorite piece of candy and shook my head.

“Sure. Let’s go. Should I grab a leash for you too?”

“Save it for Grady,” she smiled and clipped Barkley’s leash to his collar.

The air outside had started to turn balmy a little early for it to only be April. Whenever I stole a look at Kyle, I noticed her mocha skin was glowing and dewy. My muscles grew tense the longer I watched the way the breeze pulled that silk dress against her curves.

“So, since you have a date tomorrow I’m guessing that kills movie time, huh?”

Did I detect a hint of sadness in her voice?

“You know I never like for my guests to spend the night so there might be hope. I also might fuck her so good that she can’t move until the next day. We’ll have to see which way it goes.”

“You should really watch your mouth. You know the thought of you fucking anyone makes me want to vomit. You’re so inconsiderate.”

“How so? I’m taking you for your evening walk and letting Barkley get some fresh air at the same time. I’d say that’s pretty fucking considerate.”

Kyle rolled her hazel eyes at me. She took a few extra seconds to look me up and down too. I tugged on my cuffs and straightened my spine. “Is there a problem?” I asked her.

“I’m trying to figure out who you fucked on the way home. You have that look written all over your face.” She folded her arms and smirked at me. As much as I wanted to ignore her, I couldn’t. She knew me.

“Why do you think I fucked someone on the way home?”

“Because you have that smug look of victory on your face. You know how you are. You don’t give a damn about women’s feelings as much as you do acquiring a new conquest. You’re trash. Face it.”

I let out a loud, deep laugh making her glare at me.

“Trash? Nah, you have me confused with one of your train wreck dates, Kyle.”

“Who was it, Max?” She took a step closer to me. I could smell her perfume and the sweet candy on her breath. Something stirred deep inside me and I dropped my gaze to my wingtips. My gaze did stop a few times on the way down. I couldn’t let a pair of perfect tits go un-ogled and Kyle had a perfect set.

“Who was what?” I clasped my hands behind my back and looked into Kyle’s pretty eyes. They glittered.

“Who’d you fuck on the way home?” I was silent for a few moments after her question because how the fuck did she know me that well? I scratched my head and chuckled. I may as well give her what she wanted because she was a damn tiger and she wouldn’t stop until she got what she wanted anyway. It was both endearing and annoying.

That was Kyle wrapped up in one explanation.

“A girl, Tiana, from my job. She threw it at me and I caught it because…I can.”

“You’re so arrogant. You make my skin crawl sometimes, I swear. How can you fuck one of your co-workers, Max? You don’t have a policy against that?”

“Why should I?”

“Because it makes things awkward when you’re at work. I know you’re void of a soul and everything but you do understand social cues, right?” She looked at me incredulously before picking up after Barkley.

“She wanted it. I gave it to her. She’s a big girl.”

“Ugh. Sometimes I wonder why the fuck I hang around you.”

“Whydoyou hang around me?” I touched her hair and she blinked slowly, aiming her light brown laser beam gaze at me. I swear that woman could drill holes in a statue.

When we were standing that closely, I saw little tiny goosebumps wash over Kyle’s golden mocha skin. I didn’t know if I was pissing her off or turning her on. Both thoughts amused me but the last thought lingered a while in my brain.

Kyle buzzed past me with Barkley without a word and began walking back to the Avant building. “I don’t know why I hang out with you. You drive me crazy. Your ego is huge. You’re pretentious and you walk into my apartment like you live there but you know how to pick good movies. What can I say?” She shrugged her delicate shoulders and smirked at me.

I ignored the matching tiny goosebumps on my forearms and laughed as I walked ahead of her so I could open the door. “I do pick good movies,” I agreed as I watched Kyle walk through the double glass doors. I turned my head from the slow sway of her hips when I heard Mark say something to me.

“You two went for your usual Barkley walk?” He asked, splaying his meaty hands on top of the marble desk.
