I wanted them to all be horrendous warped thoughts in my mind, not reality. My stomach lurched with each confirmation from Margot.

Since she normally took control at night, when I wanted to make love to Lennox, I often wrote to her during the day. In a way, it felt like I had a pen pal…a friend.

“You ready for the big day?” Lennox took off work early and came home to pick me up. I was already dressed in a white sweater dress and a pair of knee-high boots that made Lennox drop his jaw. “Holy shit, Sutton. You look amazing.” In the next instant, I was wrapped in his arms and his lips were peeling away my sanity and resolve.

“Thank you, baby,” I purred. “I’ll be ready in a second.” He gave me one last kiss before he left me alone in our room. I sat on the bed and pulled out my journal. I flipped it to the last thing Margot wrote and smiled.

Sutton,

I know you said you were scared to initiate sex with Lennox because you keep freezing up but remember, there’s nothing to be scared of. Not with him. He’s one of the good ones. He’s not DuBois.

You’re going to seduce our husband tonight all by yourself. Put on a dress and those red knee-high boots. Leave your hair down. He loves it down.

Let him play in it, Sutton. Don’t flinch away.

Please remember that he’s a good guy. I know you have the innate urge to clam up but it breaks his heart. Take your time and let him lead if you’re scared.

Oh, and don’t look for me tonight. I’m not coming to the rescue.

I love your punk ass.

Muah,

Margot

I shook my head at her and tried to reach into my mind to feel her out. All I felt was a locked door. She seriously was going to leave me hanging.

Okay, you can do this Sutton.

I looked at myself in the mirror and stuffed my bouncy nerves down somewhere where they couldn’t mess up my seduction tactics. Besides, Lennox and I had a special appointment and there was no way in hell I was letting nerves make me late for it.

“There she is,” Lennox smiled when I walked out of the bedroom. “You ready?”

“So freaking ready,” I grinned.

“Have you been talking to Margot?” He asked, opening the door for me.

“Why do you ask?”

“Because that outfit has Margot written all over it.”

“You must like it. You keep looking,” I giggled and hurried out of the door because I knew the way he looked at me would turn my face crimson.

“And I’m going to look all damn day.” He caught up with me and hooked his arm around my waist, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

I wanted more.

We had an appointment to get to though.

I made a conscious effort to hold Lennox’s hand while he drove and he made sure to kiss my knuckles after every song he serenaded me with. Margot was right he was one of the good ones. I knew that of course, but always being afraid of intimacy made me afraid of every interaction that came from Lennox. I should have spent more time appreciating him.

When we pulled into a parking space at the orthopedic surgeon, I bolted out of the car before Lennox could open the door for me. “Shit, slow down, speedy.”

“I’m sorry. Do you know how long I’ve waited to get this damn thing off my finger? I miss the piano, Lennox. I miss it so much.”

“I know you do,” I saw a bit of apprehension in his eyes that I couldn’t figure out. My shoulders dropped a bit and I touched the side of his face.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.
