“You got some sand…” he brushed my dress off and let his hand slide over the curve of my ass. Everything jolted to life. My panties were absolutely ruined. “I’m not trying to feel you up, I promise,” Lennox laughed.

“I mean I wouldn’t be mad if you did.” I could not stop my mouth from running away from me even if I wanted to.

“Jesus. You make things hard, don’t you?”

“Hopefully,” I smirked.

“Come on, Margot. Let’s get your back to your villa before you get me in a lot of fucking trouble.”

“What’s so wrong with a little bit of trouble?” I asked as I slipped off my sandals. Lennox held them for me while we walked. Feeling the soles of my feet on the warm ground sobered me up a little bit but nothing stopped me from wanting Lennox.

Nothing.

“Sometimes, when a beautiful woman is in front of you…offering you everything you want from your wife, it’s hard to think straight. Trouble becomes something you want to avoid at all costs. I know touching you will lead to a lot of trouble and I’m not trying to cross that line.”

The silence was deafening.

It felt like a stiff coat that was too tight for my body.

“I’m on a private stretch. Just me and another villa,” I said. It was my weak attempt at breaking the thick cloud of lust stretching between us. We turned down the secluded walkway. Vines twisted their delicate way through the planks in the fence along the way. Yellow and pink flowers led the way while Lennox guided me with his hand on the small of my back.

“This one,” I said, motioning with my head to the villa. The one beside mine was dark but one light. Lennox paused. I missed the melodic shuffling of his feet on the sand dusted walkway.

“You have a villa right beside mine,” he said, dumbfounded. “Is this seriously yours?”

“Yes,” I laughed. “Why would I lie?” My brows furrowed and Lennox just shook his head in awe.

“You’re full of surprises, Margot. That’s all.” I saw a flash of worry on his face. I had the same impending sense of doom or maybe it was uncertainty. What if his wife looked out of the window and saw him walking with me? What if she came outside while we stood a little too close talking to each other?

“You don’t have to come inside,” I told him. I placed my outstretched palm on his chest and I really wish I hadn’t. It was rock hard and I couldn’t help the stifling heat engulfing me. My tongue cemented itself to the roof of my mouth.

“It’s probably the liquor talking but…I want to come inside.” He glanced over his shoulder at his villa. The one with one light on and no sign of anyone moving around.

I nodded and opened the door, stepping inside. Lennox followed me and set my shoes on the floor. “This is amazing,” he said. He wasn’t looking around the villa though. His copper eyes drilled into me.

“Can I get you some water?”

“Nah, I’m good. Thank you though.” I looked down at his hands and studied the veins like roadways. They led me to his long, thick fingers and I cringed when I saw the black tungsten wedding band on his left hand.

What the fuck are you doing, Margot?

“You keep staring at me like that and we’re both going to be in a lot of trouble, Lennox.” I ran my fingers through my hair just to have something to do with the energy buzzing through my limbs. I felt swallowed but it wasn’t a bad thing.

Lennox’s energy could swallow me any day.

“What kind of trouble?” He asked, folding his muscular arms. He stood tall with his feet apart and I felt my resolve melting.

“The kind you can’t come back from,” I told him. It was so quiet in that goddamn villa you could hear a pin drop on the carpet. I took a step toward him as a breeze blew in through the open window, seemingly pushing me closer. The gauzy curtains billowed out and I knew there couldn’t be a more perfect moment.

“Maybe I’m tired of playing shit safe all the time. It’s not getting me anywhere.”

“What about your wife?” I asked. My stomach clenched and I could have kicked myself for bringing up something that I knew would make him pull away. Lennox looked at me and unfolded his arms.

“I’m madly in love with her and will always be. But right now I want you, Margot.” His hands felt like steel when he pulled me against his body. I was done trying to pretend like I didn’t want to feel him inside of me.

Fuck that.

I rarely got a chance to be happy.
