Jovan could have cursed me out and threatened my life or he could have accepted what I told him. I waited to hear the outcome.
“What?” He blurted after a few silent seconds. “I don’t even know what the fuck to say right now, Lennox. I don’t even want details. Just…let me deal with this and I’ll hit you back later.” He ended the call abruptly and I let out a pent up breath. It wasn’t easy to tell a coworker something like that about their spouse but it had to be done. I had no more loyalty to Ebony.
“Well, I called and let everyone know my finger was broken.” Sutton appeared in the doorway to our bedroom looking like she needed a drink. I offered her wine and to my surprise, she accepted.
We sat on the bed, drinking chardonnay and talking. I still didn’t tell her about Ebony because she didn’t need that drama on top of everything else going on in her world.
“Look, baby, we’ll go on this vacation and we’ll make headway. It’s all about you and me. Let’s block out everything else. Nothing but white sand beaches and time alone with my favorite girl.” I wanted to lean over and kiss her forehead but I chose not to but the desire burned my lips and made my muscles ache from restraint.
Sutton was so gorgeous with her guard slightly down. It was no doubt because of the wine and probably the painkillers too. Her big brandy-colored eyes were dreamy and swimming with thoughts of me. I could tell. She wouldn’t let them out though.
Honolulu would be just what we needed.
It would be just what I needed to make my wife notice me.
