“I can’t afford one of those. Call them back. Now!”

“Calm down. It won’t cost you anything extra. I took care of it. The woman asked if she should give you a card like mine and whether I wanted to charge the upgrade fee to my account. I said yes. Consider it a wedding gift or an annulment gift if you prefer. It’s no big deal. Now, let’s enjoy the rest of the evening.”

“You really do live on another planet. I’ll let it gofor nowbecause I want to enjoy the surprise you promised.”

She keeps pointing out how different my life is from the norm. It’s funny though. As long as we’re married, it’s her life too. Unlike Lowri, most women would be taking advantage of their newly found position.

Hmm. Yet another attribute that sets her apart.

LOWRI

“What’s the High Roller? Are you taking me to an exclusive gambling club?” I ask.

“No. Your guess is way off. We’re headed to the LINQ Promenade. You’ll see.”

“Oh! You mean the big Ferris wheel? Is it called the High Roller?”

“It’s not exactly a Ferris wheel, but yes, that’s where we’re going. It has one of the best views of the Strip.”

“I can’t wait. This is going to be amazing!”

“The cheerful Lowri returns. It’s incredible how quickly you bounce back from adversity.”

If he only knew. Unfortunately, I had practice at an earlier age.

I need to refresh my lipstick. Damn—no purse, no lipstick.

Minutes later, our limo pulls into the driveway beneath the High Roller. We hop out and take a quick elevator ride to the boarding deck where we’re greeted by our host.

“Mr. Cartwright, thank you for joining us tonight. Your private cabin with a bar is ready. Our senior bartender, Lucas, will take care of you this evening.”

“Thank you. We’d prefer to be alone. We can pour our own drinks,” Sean says.

“Of course, sir. Right this way. Your cabin will be arriving shortly.”

“Thank you.”

We follow the host to our designated boarding spot and wait as cabins slowly slide by. Embarking passengers swiftly replace those exiting. It’s a well-orchestrated operation.

“Mr. Cartwright. You will be boarding the next one,” our host says.

As the cabin approaches, the door opens and a man says, “Welcome aboard.”

We step in as our host says, “Have a lovely evening. Lucas, please step out. Your services will not be required.”

I watch as Sean deftly palms a few bills into Lucas’s hand, drawing an appreciative smile and nod. It’s reassuring to see that Lucas didn’t lose his tip merely because we want privacy. Not all billionaires would give a second thought to Lucas. The fact he did is important to me.

I just wish he would tone down his attitude with the Athena employees when they don’t live up to his exacting standards. He doesn’t show that level of frustration with others, so I’m not sure what’s causing him to take that approach to managing his staff.

That said, he’s welcome to bring his alpha-ness to the bedroom. He’s sexy when he’s growly. Who am I kidding? He’s always sexy regardless of whether he’s the one in control.

“Here we go. Are you ready to see Vegas from a new vantage point?” Sean asks.

Without stopping, the cabin moves forward and the door closes, leaving us sealed in our own little world.

Turning toward him, I nod.
