And for the first time, Dallas wondered if maybe itwasn’tselfish of him to leave. Maybe it had been selfish of him to stay.
After the call ended, he sat there in the library for a while, just thinking over all he and his father had said and decided.
There was a tap on the doorframe. “How’d it go?” Ronnie asked.
He reached a hand out and loved the way she didn’t even hesitate before coming to him. And when he tugged on her hand, she settled into his lap like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Because…it was.
So strange, but so true. The way they were together, it was so easy. So natural.
So…meant to be.
Ronnie touched the corner of his mouth. “That smile is a good sign.”
He turned his head to kiss her finger, making her laugh.
“I take it the conversation went well?”
“I told him about wanting to leave the company.” He nodded, wrapping his arms around her. “It went better than expected.”
“So it’s done, then,” she said.
“It’s done.” He kissed her temple. “Which means your boyfriend is unemployed. You cool with that?”
She grinned. “Boyfriend, huh?”
His heart seemed to pause as he waited for her to continue. “Mmm. Is that okay?”
“That you’re my boyfriend or that you’re unemployed?”
“Both.”
Maybe she saw just how serious he was, because her smile faded and she touched his cheek.
“I love that you’re my boyfriend.” She leaned in to kiss him lightly. “I’m not used to the B-word, but…I like it. A lot.”
He nuzzled her neck until she giggled. “Yeah.”
“Yeah. And as for the unemployed part, I love that too.” He gave a little snort of disbelief, but she pushed on his chest so she could look at him. “No, I’m serious.”
“You’ve always wanted to support a boyfriend in addition to your family, huh?”
She rolled her eyes, but it was the pink in her cheeks that caught his interest.
“Ronnie,” he said slowly. “What is it?”
She bit her lip. “Well, I was wondering if maybe—just while you’re figuring things out—you’d want a job. With me…”
He gave her a look of amused confusion. “A job.”
“Mm-hmm.” She toyed with the front of his shirt. “I’ve been thinking about how great you were on the phone the other day. With Mike and figuring out how to handle the sponsorships and…”
She took a deep breath like she was nervous, so he clasped her hands in his and met her gaze. “Just spit it out, Ronnie.”
She wet her lips. “Would you maybe want to be my agent?”
He stared at her in surprise.
