Ronnie stared at him, her eyes soft and filled with something so sweet it made his throat ache. Then she nodded.

She swiveled to face him, reaching out to touch his chest. His heart kicked against his ribcage.

“Hey, Dallas?” Her voice was a little breathless.

It caused his own to come out sounding gravelly and gruff. “Yeah?”

She tugged on his shirt, pulling him closer. “I need you to kiss me.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He smiled, leaning down to meet her lips in a kiss that was soft and sweet. They met and clung, and astheir breath mingled and the heat between them seemed to skyrocket…

He felt a shift in his chest again.

No, wait, it was a shift in his whole body.

His whole world.

The entire universe seemed to turn on its axis and fall into place around him.

Dallas touched her jaw, angled his head, and deepened the kiss. And the heat between them built to a flame that was hotter than the one in the fireplace beside them. Her answering moan was intoxicating. The way she leaned into him, exploring his lips with her own…

It was perfection.

Her grip on his shirt tightened, and he pulled her closer, into his arms, as the kiss went from sweet to passionate. Just like everything else they did together, kissing had that same zeal. That spark. That intensity that drove him freakin’ wild.

Chapter Forty-Three

Willow danced in place. Difficult to do, considering the dilapidated, cramped surroundings of this old shed.

But she’d found something. She’d found something!

She clutched the little tin box to her chest. “I found it!”

“Willow!” Eric shouted her name, and she turned to see him fighting his way over debris.

She beamed at him, and he stopped short, scanning her with frantic eyes.

He looked…pale. Scared.

“Are you okay?”

He gaped at her. “AmIokay? I thought you—” He clamped his mouth shut and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“You thought I what?”

Dropping his hand with a huff that could only be described as irate, he glared at her for a second. “I thought you’d hurt yourself. That scream was…chilling.” He gritted out the last word.

With a wincing smile, she mumbled out a quick apology but then rushed on to explain, “But I think I found them!” She held up the tin box and started dancing on her toes again.

He stared at her for a long beat, and then he surprised the heck out of her by stomping over and scooping her into his arms.

It was starting to feel like picking her up and holding her was…a thing he did now.

“What are you doing?” She couldn’t help a soft giggle.

He glared down at her. “Taking you out of this death trap before it collapses on you.”

“Oh.” Well. That was… She pressed her lips together to hold back a silly smile. That was pretty sweet, actually.
