“It’s my lucky day,” he murmured as he took her into his arms and they swayed in time to the music.

“I’d say it’smylucky day,” she argued.

“I’ll fight you for it,” he deadpanned.

She started to laugh, but his kiss made her forget all about her giggles, and she sighed dreamily instead.

“Here’s to our first dance as an official couple,” he murmured.

She tightened her arms around his neck and rested her head against his chest. “And here’s to countless more.”

Nearly a week later, JJ glared at the phone in his hand before bringing it back to his ear. Frustration rippled off him as he tried to keep his cool. “I hear what you’re saying, Mr. Masterson, but I don’t think you’re listening—”

The voice on the other end wouldn’t quit.

It didn’t help that the computer wasn’t doing anything it was supposed to. He hit a tab in the corner and managed to lose everything he’d just done.

His muttered curse didn’t stop the supplier haranguing him on the other end of the line.

“I will not be supplying you one more thing until I receive full payment for my last—”

“We did pay him! I know that invoice is in there somewhere.” Kit was hovering over the desk with his hands on his hips, glowering at the computer like he could intimidate it into submission.

JJ set the phone down, a moment’s reprieve from the bleating in his ear. “Where’s Cody? Maybe he knows how to work this dang thing.”

Kit shook his head. “Sent him into town for supplies.”

JJ frowned.

“Should we call Nash?” Kit asked.

JJ shook his head. “And interrupt his honeymoon? No, sir.”

“Right.” Kit sat on the edge of the desk with a sigh. “We can figure this out. After all, we promised Nash we’d keep things running without a hitch. We just need to find that invoice. That has to be proof enough for this stubborn jerk. I knew Nash had reservations about switching over to him, but when Willard retired, we kind of ran out of options.”

“Are you even listening to me!” The voice from the phone got louder, and they both flinched.

Just then the office door swung open, and a smiling Dahlia walked in, her hands full of coffee mugs. “Hey, guys, I brought…”

She trailed off with a frown as she took in JJ’s expression, the computer, a scowling Kit, and the phone on the desk. “What’s going on?”

JJ’s insides leapt with hope, and he looked at Kit. “Dahlia knows this stuff. You know computers, right, baby? You know numbers?”

She arched her brows, looking on the verge of a giggle, but she must have picked up on his desperation, because she didn’t even pause before setting down the mugs and shooing him out of the office chair. “What’s the problem?”

His blood turned to lava. Goodness, she was gorgeous when she went into business mode. In a few sentences he laid out the issue at hand. Nash was a stickler about paying invoices on time and had never once missed a payment. But this new supplier on the line was trying to convince them they owed that plus more, and—

Dahlia cut him off before he could even finish. “Give the phone to me.”

JJ lifted the phone to his ear. “Mr. Masterson, I’m just gonna pass you over to the ranch’s, uh…”

Kit and Dahlia gave him expectant looks.

“Our business manager.” JJ winced at the off-the-cuff lie.

Dahlia rolled her eyes, but she looked like she was trying not to laugh as she stole the phone from him.
