After wondering for hours if this trip was a good idea, JJ now had his answer.

Joy exploded in his chest at Dahlia’s expression. In the span of seconds, he saw everything in her eyes, plain as day.

Her happiness that he was here. How much she’d missed him.

The feelings she had for him that she couldn’t deny.

Her lips wobbled as her eyes filled with tears. Meanwhile, a satisfied grin curved his lips.

He couldn’t help it—relief coursed through him right alongside this overwhelming warmth at seeing her again.

Any doubts he’d been struggling with as he’d navigated airports and taxis to get here were banished.

He was exactly where he was supposed to be. With his Dahlia.

The fact that they were in a reception area in a stuffy corporate office didn’t even matter.

To him, at least.

He saw the moment Dahlia recalled where she was. She straightened like a soldier, her shoulders going back, her face morphing into one of bland professionalism.

It was a sight to behold. But his Dahlia couldn’t fool him any longer.

She’d missed him.

With a nod toward the hallway behind her, Dahlia murmured, “Come with me, please.” Like he was here for an interview or some kind of marketing meeting.

He chuckled as he fell into step behind her, nodding at the grinning receptionist as he left. He sauntered after Dahlia, admiring her classic business clothes and how they hugged her body in all the right places. Those heels sure did make her stocking-covered legs look good. But so did skinny jeans and UGG boots. Heck, she could be sporting a pair of tartan pajamas and she’d still look sexy.

He scored himself a bunch of looks and stares from the gallery of paper pushers in the cubicles they passed.

Dahlia’s cheeks were burning by the time they walked into her office and she quickly shut the door. The office was tiny. More like a cubicle but with higher walls. There was barely enough room for her desk, but that didn’t stop her from standing behind it and crossing her arms as she faced him. “What are you doing here?”

He just grinned. Wasn’t it obvious?

She huffed. “Yes, but why? Why are you here to see me?”

“Because I couldn’t stand another day of not seeing you,” he said. “I miss you, Lia.”

She stared at him, her eyes wide, her lips parting like she was desperate for a snappy comeback but couldn’t find one.

“Don’t look at me like that. I know you missed me too, so I’m visiting for the weekend.”

Her lips trembled with a smile like she wanted to give into her joy but couldn't let herself. “I don’t finish work for another couple hours.”

“No problem.” He took a seat in the small chair wedged into the corner and pulled a tattered novel from his bag. “I’ll just read until you’re ready.”

She watched him for a long moment, but when he held his novel up with arched brows as if to say “Do you mind? I’m trying to read here,” she gave her head a shake and sat down at her desk.

The minutes ticked by slowly as he tried to read. It was useless. No matter how hard he stared at the book in his hands, his mind was constantly on the woman before him. He was painfully aware of her every movement, her every glance.

And oh how she glanced. Nearly every time he peeked up from his book, he caught her stealing glimpses of him.

Every time, he grinned.

And every time, she ducked her head with an adorable little blush.

After a while, it was like no time had passed at all since she’d left the ranch. They could have been sitting in silence in the cabin instead of a sterile office for all the sweet, lingering looks and the secretive, knowing smiles.
