“For what? Being a fool?”
“No.” Her laughter was breathy as she shifted in his arms so she could gaze up at him in the moonlight. “Thank you for being everything I’ve ever wanted. Thank you for falling in love with me.”
“You made it so easy.”
Her lips curled with a smile that made his heart sing. She gently played with the collar of his shirt, resting her head against his shoulder. “All my life, I’ve always wanted to feel this way. To be loved and have someone… the right someone… love me in return. And now I’ve found you.”
She looked up at him again and he cupped her cheek, running his thumb over her smooth skin. “It was like God was saving us up for each other.”
Emma’s smile grew to that sunshine brilliance he adored so much. “I like that. I like that a lot.”
She leaned in and he met her lips with a kiss that felt so familiar yet still held the excitement of a shiny new toy. He deepened it for a moment before pulling away and brushing the tip of his nose against hers.
“The timing may not be right just yet,” he whispered. “But know this, Emma O’Sullivan, I’m going to ask you to marry me one day.”
“And I’m going to say yes.” Wrapping her hand around his neck, she pulled him down for another kiss.
The owl hooted from the nearby tree, like he was watching them and approved of the match. And he should.
Because Nash knew without a doubt in his mind that Emma was born to be his.
