Yeah, Corbin was aware.
Only, how could he get better at his job if he didn’t take risks?
Landry spoke up.
“The commissioner is concerned that this city is becoming a port for trafficking and other seedy things. He wants it handled, and we fully expect updates along the way to ensure it’s being controlled.”
Yeah, Corbin didn’t wantPhillyto get worse. This was his home, and he needed to protect it.
“I can handle it. I’m not exactly green,” he admitted. “Look at my track record. I’ve closed some big cases. I helped shut downSyn, and assisted in bringing Javier Hughes in. When no one could get into his club, I was on the team that did.”
Oh, they were all aware.
And they had been surprised as hell when he’d gotten credit for that from the FBI.
That wasn’t the norm when the FBI took a case.
In fact, because of that, the commissioner had given Corbin Price an award for closing that case. Now, Oliver was going to have to put his faith in the man.
He needed to put his money where his mouth was.
It appeared that Oliver was going to give the man exactly what he wanted.
“Okay, Son. You’re going to get with the two detectives today to be updated, and start tomorrow working on the homicides.”
Corbin wanted to grin so badly, but he was trying not to do that.
The captain continued.
“Clear up anything on your calendar, and I’ll get another detective to take your homicide case that you pulled today. If it gets sketchy, get out,” he said. “Do you hear me? Because we don’t have enough cops to give you backup right now.”
Landry agreed.
“We can’t authorize more than you,” he stated. “That’s coming from the commissioner.”
Oh, he heard him, and Corbin didn’t need backup. He was going to nail this case, and start his climb.
On.
His.
Own.
It wouldn’t be on the coattails of his mother, or because two Feds helped him.
No.
It would be all him for a change.
“Yes, Sir. I’ve got this. Trust me when I say I want to get justice for the three men who were killed. I will, too. I’ll figure out the trafficking, if they were, and if it connects to the bar.”
Oliver just nodded his head, and he hoped the man could do it.
And he hoped he didn’t just drop a green detective into a trap. While he liked Corbin, and saw he had a good work ethic, he was young.
And that might come back to bite them in the ass.
His ass.
