Despite not seeing his best buddies much, truth be told, Corbin was still living his best life.

Now, if he could just figure out why he was being summoned to the man’s office, then he’d stop worrying so much.

He couldn’t help it.

Cops were paranoid aboutEVERYTHING.

Now, his fingers were crossed.

When he arrived, he saw that his boss was inside his office talking to two other cops, and along with him was the attaché for the commissioner.

Uh-oh.

If the commissioner’s right-hand assistant, his personal aid, was here, that meant trouble.

On top of that, Corbin recognized the two cops because he’d talked to them before on a case.

Detectives Rivet and Eastcott were sitting in the office, along with the commissioner’s assistant, and it appeared they were having one hell of a conversation.

Yowza.

He hadn’t crossed paths with these two Vice detectives for weeks, and there was a reason for that.

They were Vice, and he was Homicide.

Rarely did the two intermingle.

In fact, the last time that he had encountered them, he, Ethan Blackhawk, and Gene Cantrell had been working on the‘Club Syn’murders.

That wasMONTHSago.

Okay, color him curious. Now, he needed to know what the hell was going on.

This piqued his interest.

How could it not?

When his boss, Oliver Guy, saw him standing outside of the office, he motioned for him to head in to join them.

Immediately, Corbin’s heart began racing in his chest. Something had to be going on, and he knew it. This whole thing was not normal.

Curiosity was killing the Corby.

As he entered, the other three men glanced over, and Oliver handled it.

“Corbin, have you met Detectives Kip Rivet and Payton Eastcott?” he asked. “Because I’m sure you know Landry Mahoney, the commissioner’s aide.”

He nodded, and Corbin took the time to shake all of their hands.

“Yes, I’m familiar with everyone. We’ve crossed paths before, Captain. Hey, guys. What’s going on?” he asked, keeping it light as he took a seat not far from them.

The whole time, Corbin was feeling anything but calm. His nerves were up, and his fingers were crossed.

From where the one cop sat, Detective Kip Rivet focused on the young man, and he wasn’t sure if this newbie was ready or not.

What they’d encountered on one of their cases was one hell of a mess, and their boss had called the commissioner needing help when it stopped being their jurisdiction.

Vice was one thing, but murder...?
