In.

Case.

Alice had a big mouth, and not only that, but she’d also try to talk him out of this.

So she was out.

As for Ethan and Gene, he didn’t want to pull them into something when they were busy.

Who was he kidding?

The truth was that he also didn’t want them to rain on his parade. They’d tell him that he wasn’t ready to do undercover work. Knowing them, both men would drop everything to‘save’him, and that wasn’t his goal.

So, that left his man.

And he trusted him.

That was the bottom line, but even now, he planned on giving him the bare minimum, so he didn’t worry.

“I just got a new assignment, Will. I’m going to be going undercover to help Vice handle a murder case. Three men have turned up dead.”

Uh-oh.

That made him nervous, and he wouldn’t lie. Will handled a lot of cases like that, and undercover was dangerous.

Because this was Corbin, he wasn’t thrilled.

“Undercover?” he asked.

Corbin nodded.

“Yeah, so I won’t be around for a while until I close it. I have to find the connection to a bar, and how the men went missing. So we’ll have to work around that case. Don’t be upset if you don’t hear from me, or we have to miss a date night.”

That sent up red flags. They were newly into this relationship, and Will had been ghosted before with some lame excuse.

Was that what this was?

Immediately, he didn’t like the way he phrased that, so Will took a step back.

“Did I do something to make you not want to be around?” he asked, that fear filling him that this wasn’t a real thing, but a way to ditch him.

They were only days into their relationship, and he was already invested.

As in ALL IN.

Corbin was confused.

“What?” he asked. “Where did you get that idea?”

Will was honest.

“Are you just trying to dump me but don’t know how to do it?” he asked.

Corbin actually blinked, trying to figure out how he came to that conclusion by telling him about his undercover job.

That was the exact opposite of what he had been trying to do. He just wanted someone to know what he was doing.

“Uh, no, Will. I’m legit going undercover,” he stated. “Seriously.”
