“Who?”

“The sexy man I ran into in the hall yesterday.”

“Oh. Are you sure you were talking or doing something else?” She grinned.

“We need to talk,” I spoke with seriousness.

I told her everything. I told her about how I had dinner and sex with him last night. After I dropped that bomb, I dropped the other one.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” I asked.

“I think you’re crazy, but you need to do it. Fuck. There’s something I need to tell you. I’ve been holding back because your life is a mess, and I didn’t want to add to it.”

“What are you talking about?” I stared at her.

“I got a job offer as a marketing manager in Connecticut. The money was too good to turn down, so I accepted.”

“And how long have you known this for?”

“I found out the day before we came here. I didn’t want to ruin our trip. I was going to tell you when we got back to New York.”

“You were just going to leave me in that apartment when you knew I didn’t have a job and could barely afford to pay my half?”

“Well, I was going to ask you to move with me. I’m sure you’d be able to find a job in Connecticut. But now, you’re getting married with five hundred thousand dollars deposited into your account, and I don’t have to worry about you.”

“Wow, Jordyn.”

“I’m sorry, Stella. You know I love you, but I have to take this job.”

“I know. But you’re moving out of state. You’re my best friend. What am I going to do without you?”

“I’ll only be two hours away. That’s nothing. We’ll see each other still. Plus, we can Facetime every day. Besides, you’ll have your husband to keep you company.” A smirk crossed her lips.

“Stop it. He’s only my husband on paper.”

She shrugged. “You’ll be living with him in his fancy penthouse. You’re moving on up, girl. You went from being fired, jobless, and broke to marrying a billionaire and becoming rich all in a matter of a month.”

“It feels wrong.” I looked down.

“All I can say is if some sexy as fuck billionaire offered me a million dollars to become his fake wife, I’d jump on it, not feel guilty, and lay on the bed naked, rolling in all that cash.” She grinned.

“Stop it.” I laughed, playfully smacking her.

“Come on. We have to get ready to go out. Unless your fiancé wants you all to himself.”

“Very funny.”

It was our last night in Vegas. I hadn’t seen or spoken to Stella since our conversation yesterday. I needed time to collect my thoughts and get things in order before I became a married man for the next year. Staring at myself in the mirror as I buttoned up my shirt, I cursed my mother for doing this to me.

I met Levi in the restaurant for dinner at seven p.m. When I approached the table, I saw he was alone.

“Where’s Laurel?”

“She has a migraine. So, it’s just the two of us tonight.” He grinned.

“Good. It's not good that she has a migraine. I do hope she feels better. But it's good that it’s just the two of us. There’s something I need to tell you.”
