Oh no.

‘Well,’Ruaridh motions to Liam’s masked face.‘You going to explain.’

Tugging the mask off,‘It’s her, Ru. She’s who I’ve been searching for. The woman I told you about.’

If a person were capable of turning to stone, Ruaridh would be the perfect portrayal of it.

‘Ru, don’t.’Isla warns, but he doesn’t take any note of it.

‘You’re telling me,’he points to Isla.‘She is the one you’ve been obsessed with. The one you…’ he cuts himself off before he canfinish his sentence, choosing to clench his teeth so hard I’m half listening for a shattering sound.

‘No way!’One of the girls shouts behind us.‘This is the baby daddy?’

‘Looks like you and Faun have mask kinks because dam.’Another hoots.

‘Not helping,’I scold.

‘So when you said you never saw his face, you meant he fucked you wearing his mask.’Another points out as a chorus of‘Yass girl’sounds behind us.

Ruaridh’s red face makes him look like he’s about to burst.‘You got my little sister pregnant!’his fist connects with his best friend's cheek.

Chapter Thirty-eight

??

Ruaridh

Liam is a dead man walking.

I can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it, but it’s blatantly obvious for everyone to see.

I was trying to give him the time to explain, but as soon as someone made the mask comment, the time for level-headedness was gone.

No one treats my little sister like that.

And no one gets to knock her up and leave her.

‘What do you mean pregnant?’Liam rubs at his face as it begins to swell.‘And sister? I thought she was…’

‘I mean, you got my little sister pregnant,’I pull him upright by the collar of his shirt.‘And I’m going to kill you for it.’

‘You’re in trouble, big guy.’Someone hoots behind me along with a chorus of ooo’s, but I don’t bother with who it is; I can’t care less about them.

Ready to drag him down to the Clyde, I turn but stop short. Fauna is stood there, hands crossed across her chest as she purses her lips. Good, she’s not impressed with this asshole either.

‘I’ll deal with him, baby.’My voice softens as I speak to my little deer, and my grip tightens on the asshole.

‘Let him go, Ruaridh.’She sighs.

What on earth is she on about?

‘What?’

‘I said let him go. This isn’t your fight. It’s Isla’s, and she is more than capable of kicking his ass if that is what she wants.’Her head motions back to my sister’s very pissed-off expression.

I hope that look is for Liam and not me.

‘Why am I getting the shit for this asshole’s actions?’My voice is defensive because, well, it fucking should be. Why am I getting ganged up on when he did wrong?
