“He’s right,” Sam says. He’s sitting in one of the dining room chairs pulled up to the coffee table.

Dante and Zane are on the sofa. Calvin’s in the lone swivel chair.

“You trust this guy?”

“Anan?” Dante asks. “Enough. Passports aren’t his money maker, more of a side hustle to his side hustle. He’s a talented chef. He’s been offered head chef positions at all the majorresorts. Or at least that’s his brag. He makes his money with gambling and collections and the restaurant?it’s more than a front. It’s his passion. Honestly, he’s the only person I’ve ever met who sleeps less than me. He’d be bored without all the underworld shit he does.”

“I don’t like it,” Sam says.

“Then we go to the police,” I retort.

“No.” Zane taps Ed’s file with his foot.

“Okay . . . okay, no.” I nod. I’ve been around plenty of rich assholes who think they can pay to get out of anything. Ed has firepower. “We get somewhere safer first. New York, Miami. Somewhere my dad can have hired guns to protect us.”

Calvin’s eyebrows shoot up. “Do we know your dad’s not in on this?”

“Fuck you, Green. My dad isn’t trying to kill me, or you. He might have been mixed up in some shit, but he’s not a killer. He would never have hurt anyone. Especially Emily.” I didn’t like him with Candy, but he loved her. “You can see it by the look on his face. Back when she was alive and again by the haggard look of him in all the current photos.”

“Sorry.” Green holds my stare.

Sam picks up the folder. “Damn it, I don’t like it. But this list is awfully convincing. Though there’s a hell of a lot of lines with NY on them. Still, we should head home.”

There’s a twist of my stomach. We’re going to get there.

Chapter 26

Home Port

The sun streams through the blackout blinds as I crack my eyes open. Haley’s ass is pressed up against my groin, and I have to suck in a breath to keep from rutting on her. Dante’s on the other side of her. Easton, Sam, and Zane are sleeping in the next room. The bed’s huge, and I’m shocked they didn’t force their way in. Easton offered to take the first shift of watching the path and out the front door. Sam and Zane said they’d take the ones after that. I’d been on watch since we got into the room.

I haven’t moved all night. I’m not sure I’ve slept this solidly or long in years?not even when I was in high school and had to bale hay all day. I crane my neck. The fancy clock on the nightstand says twelve. As in noon.

Haley rubs against me. I place my hand on her belly and pull her closer, inwardly groaning, and whisper, “You’re awake.”

“Hmm, not really.” She grinds up against me, and fuck me. I’m ready to go. Brushing her hair away from her neck, my lipshover over the tender spot behind her ear. She tilts her head back. “Do it.”

My laugh vibrates against her skin as I taste her sweetness. Her silky-smooth skin has my eyes drifting back shut. There’s movement on the other side of her, and she moans.

I harden more as I wiggle into her, my cock settling between her butt cheeks. Her top leg moves and bends back into me. There’s a change in her breathing, and she pushes hard against me. My eyes spring open. Dante has one of her legs over his shoulder, his face buried in her pussy. I freeze, taking it in. Damn, who would have thought I’d like watching the woman I love being devoured by another guy? Even after a year of it, I’m still in shock. Maybe it’s being back in civilization. Running water, clean sheets, and all the damn strong smells?coffee, laundry soap, car exhaust, and cooking oil . . . the world’s a weird place. But this is where I belong with Haley.

It’s like a switch clicks for me. I never thought we were getting off the island, and then I thought I was going to die for her on the sun deck. But now? Fuck no. Nothing’s going to stop me from getting her home. From introducing her to my family. This is what Haley Brewster is for me.

A feral need boils up from my stomach. I lick along the rim of her ear and turn her head to mine. Capturing her lips, I drink her in, brushing my tongue along the seam of her mouth, and she lets me in. Each kiss with her is a precious gift. And I want more. I hold her head to mine. She plunders my lips back. I’m kissing her knowing we finally have a future. We’re not nearly out of the thick of it yet, but my body is shutting down my brain?fuck it. She’s it for me, and I will protect her with every cell in my body. This won’t be the last time I have her. She tastes of spice and warmth. But mostly of Haley. Home.

Her head falls to the pillow. Her back arches.

“You’re close. So damn close,” I say, watching her head flop from side to side on the pristine white pillowcase. Her tanned skin glows against it. She smells of exotic soaps, but under it all, it’s her.

“Don’t stop.” Her right hand rests along my cheek. Her left hand grips Dante’s hair, and he chuckles.

I hold her neck still and let her wiggle into my hand. “We’re not going to stop, Chiefie. You have to take it. Take every last bit of it. Open your eyes.”

Her blues flick open.

“You’re in control, Haley. You have every last one of us.” I mean it. I don’t even fucking care that it doesn’t seem possible. That the world might be against us. It doesn’t matter.
