“Is he coming to the ceremony?”

I shrugged.“I don’t know that either, he said he was. Shit if he doesn’t then oh well.”

“You don’t really mean that.”She frowned. “You look like you been crying all damn morning. Look at you.”

“I wasbecause I’m emotional, that’s what pregnant women do.”

She pulledout her phone and called him. “Don’t you fucking, Victoria the shit out of me today. I’m your fucking mama, I keep telling you that whether you like it or not. I’m not gonna apologize to you for the rest of my life boy. Now, where the fuck are you?” She snapped.

I couldn’t hearwhat he was saying, I could only hear her since she didn’t have it on speaker. “Um hmm, well you better have your ass at that ceremony, this girl is pregnant, what the fuck is wrong with you? I don’t care what she’s accusing you of, keep them bitches out of your face Meek.”

She rolledher eyes upward and rolled her neck. “I can tell you what to do all I want; I don’t want to hear shit about my past. You just better be there and if that girl continues to cause problems, I’m gonna whoop her ass my damn self. Mama don’t play.” She hung up and faced me. “Now, get yourself together and let’s go get these certificates.”

We droveto the hall where the ceremony would be held, and I was surprised to see how many people were in attendance; I wasn’t prepared for that. I was flushed with a wave of emotion as I watched everyone taking family pictures. Mya pulled up with Demond shortly after we arrived there. They both held roses in their hands and were dressed casual.

“Congrats baby mama!”Mya squealed. “I’m so happy for you.”

“Congrats Kisha ‘F’baby.” Demond hugged me and gave me my flowers as well. I could tell there was still some tension between him and Mya cause they weren’t even standing by each other, and she kept cutting her eyes at him.

“Hello everyone.”Victoria spoke being much pleasant then she was the last time they saw her.

“Hey.”They both said at the same time. I knew they didn’t really know how to take her and honestly, I didn’t either I just wanted to make it work for Meek’s sake because she’d proven that she wasn’t going to stop coming around.

“Is Meek coming?”Mya asked.

I scanned the parking lot.“I’m not sure.”

“That nigga coming, trust me.”Demond replied.

We waited aboutten minutes longer, but it was time to go inside, and I was crushed on the inside. I had three people out in the crowd for me but the person who I really wanted there the most was nowhere to be found. I stood behind the curtain waiting for my name to be called and right before they called the girl in front of me, in came Meek looking GQ from head to toe with the biggest bundle of flowers in his hands. He found a seat in the back and sat down just as they were calling me. When it was my time to walk out everyone cheered for me as I wobbled my way to receive my certificates.

When I was done,I was so happy I didn’t know what to do. This was giving me more clarification that I was going to be somebody no matter what. It felt real now, and I did it. I found my way to my peoples and took a few pictures.

“I gotta run.”Mya said hugging me. “I have a interview girl and I can’t miss this.” She said.

“Good luck.”I smiled. “And thanks for coming.”

Demond rodewith her so he didn’t have a choice besides to leave as well. “I’m proud of you Kisha; the stars the limit.” He said.

I huggedhim and thanked him as well. Meek stood off to the side looking at me. When I reached him, he placed his hand onmy stomach like he always did before leaning down to kiss it. “Congrats baby.” He passed me the flowers along with a small box.

“What is this?”I asked.

“Open it.”He told me.

When I did,it was a gift card with $5,000 on it.

“That’sfor you to get some other shit you want to put in that shop. I mean I don’t really know.” He shrugged.

I lookedin his eyes and they were blood shot red like he hadn’t gotten any sleep or had possibly even been drinking. “You okay?” I asked.

“Yeah,I’m fine. I gotta go though so I’ll see you later.” He said kissing me again before walking off. I couldn’t even walk behind him; I was stuck.

Victoria adjustedher shirt while walking from the restroom. “Now where the fuck is he going?” She asked placing both hands on her hips.

“I don’t know.”I told her catching a tear before it fell.

“This boy is gonna makeme kick his ass. Come on child.” She led the way and drove me back to the house where I stayed forthe rest of the day. I understood; I got it perfectly I wasn’t slow. Meek could’ve come home by now. It was 10pm and I sat on the couch alone while he was still trying to teach me a lesson. I didn’t like this not one bit.
