Damn, she came right out the gate tearing a nigga down. I hadn’t even put money on her books since I’d been in here, so if she had money, it was only one other person who could’ve made that happen. Kisha.

I tried my best to clear my throat before talking to her. “Calm down Reesie. You out of all people know if I get missing then something is wrong. Have I ever done that shit before?” I questioned.

“No, but damn Meek. Okay talk to me, what’s happening? The only shit I’m accepting is if it’s life threatening.”

“Well, you’ll accept this then cause a nigga got shot in the chest and flat lined twice. I’m finally about to get discharged from the hospital today but I’mma have to take it easy.”

She gasped on the other side of the phone. “Shit Meek! Who shot you? Are you okay? Oh my God I’m soooo sorry.” She cried.

Now, I told her about asking me questions and shit on them people phones. I even hated the fact that she said my name so much; they didn’t need to know whom the fuck she was talking too. “I’m okay I’ll be aiight, you know that. I can’t come see youthis week, but I’ll make it soon. Give me some time, okay? I’m not trying to come there just yet.”

“I understand Meek, just take care of yourself and at least write me. I can’t believe this shit; you never had enemies and now all of a sudden you get shot?”

“What you getting at?”

“I’m just saying, that’s crazy. Who were you with?” She asked.

“Too many questions Reesie; I told you about that. I’ll come see you and talk to you, okay? How you holding up?”

She sighed. “I miss the shit out of you and I’m trying to dodge all the trouble I can, but I’ve had two fights already. Bitches just trying my patience to see if they can.”

“Try to stay out of trouble I don’t have no extra money to give that lawyer cause you catching extra cases and shit aiight?”

“I hear you Meek. Well, I gotta go cause the line is already long as hell and that’ll be another fight. I love you.”

“I love you too Reesie, but you already know that.”

When I hung up and turned around, Kisha and Mya were coming through the door. It felt good to be a free man again.

CHAPTER 15

Iwas busy scrubbing everything down so I could prepare for Meek to come home. I hadn’t left that nigga’s side since the day he went in, and I would forever be here for him. I still couldn’t believe he actually took a bullet for me and was understanding about it, when I explained my theory on why I think it may have happened. I was feeling down though, I couldn’t deny that. I was almost depressed a little because it shouldn’t have ever happened in the first place.

Mya pulledthe lasagna from the oven while I cleaned the kitchen. “Stop moving so slow and move faster Kisha! I know he’s ready to come home.”

I stared at her now.“I just don’t know Mya, like I’ve really been feeling a type of way about all of this shit, even his mama blasting me like that. I try to do the best I can all the time but it’s not enough. Do you know I even went ahead and put money on Reesie’s books and Meek didn’t even know?”

“And you’re a betterbitch than me because I don’t know if I could’ve done it. It’s not your responsibility; you think she would’ve done that for you?”

I watchedher place the foil on top of the pan as the hot melted cheese bubbled on top. “I didn’t do it for her, it wasn’t about her, it was about Meek.”

“Okay, I get it.”She said turning around with her hands on the counter. “And why are you still tripping about what his mama said? Fuck her, she has no room to talk about anything. Did you even tell him?”

“No,I didn’t tell him at all. I don’t want to stress him about bullshit right now.”

“Well,I’ll be glad when you get your spirit back.”

“I’ll be okay.”I told her as someone started knocking on the door.

“You expecting somebody?”She asked tooting her nose up.

“No.”I replied.

She walkedto the door and checked the peephole. “Oh shit, it’s Meek’s mama. What you want me to do?”

I wasn’t evensure how she found out where this house was. “Let her in.” I said.

As soon asMya opened the door the foul spirit Victoria brought with her came right in this house with her. As usual she was dressed ghetto fabulous. “Where is my son?” She asked.
