I rushedhome and took a warm bath since that always helped with my contractions. Just like any other time, it worked. I got out and heat up my chicken soup from earlier and sat on the bed watching TV. I loved my new spot; it was so comfortable and cozy. It was quiet around here and most of my neighbors were older people so all they did was work and come home. They often checked on me since they knew I was pregnant and alone. I called my assistant to check on the shop; well, she wasn’t really my assistant because she didn’t make me pay her. She was my cosmetology teacher, and she wanted nothing more than to help; she knew my story and genuinely wanted me to win.
“Hi Kisha, how are you feeling?”She asked.
“I’m okay,how’s everything going?” I asked her.
“When it’sall said and done, you’ll love it. I promise you. I just want you to focus on getting your baby here and nothing else.”
I smiledand placed my hand on my stomach. This little boy was busy today. “Has Meek been by there?” I asked with butterflies.
“He has,and often. He loves you, Kisha; he just messed up. He will come and even want to do a walk thru himself to make sure that it’s something you’ll like.”
I giggled. That was some funny shit, but I loved it. “Okay, well I’ll keep you posted on my end.” I said before hanging up.
It wastime to get some rest, another lonely night was coming right up but you know what? I was okay with that, in a couple of days, I would have a new little person to love all over.
The daybefore Meek’s birthday was one of the most painful pregnancy days ever. I sat on the couch all the way on the edge while holding my back and taking my time to breath.
“Areyou sure you don’t want to go to the hospital now?” Victoria asked rushing around the house to pack me a bag. I had no choice besides to call her because Mya didn’t answer, and I was scared as shit. Plus, she’s been through this before.
“Not yet.”I replied.
Mya called me next.“I missed your call girl, is everything okay? I was dealing with Demond’s bullshit.”
“I think I’m in labor.”I said feeling something pop in my coochie. I looked down feeling warm water trickling down my leg and all over the couch. “Definitely in labor, my water just broke.”
She gasped.“Oh my God! I’m on my way.”
I remained calm.“I won’t be here, meet me at the hospital.” She hung up before I could even get the rest of the words out.
Victoria walkedout holding my bag in one hand and my keys in the other. “Now the worst shit you can do is panic right now.” She said. “Let me help you get on some dry clothes and get to the hospital.”
I thoughtabout Meek on the way there, I knew the right thing to do was to call him. He deserved to be a part of this. I knew I’d have to face him sooner or later, so I picked up and dialed his number.
“Hello? You’ve reached Meek, how can I help you?” He asked. He must’ve thought that I was a customer or something. I thought it was cute, but I was in too much pain to address it.
“Meek.”I paused. “It’s Kisha.”
The silenceon the line was so awkward.
“Hello?”I said thinking he hung up. My heart was smiling but I was scared and nervous.
“Baby.”He replied. I didn’t realize how much I really missed his voice until now. “I love you Kisha, I don’t think you know how much. Is this really you?” He asked like he couldn’t believe it.
“It’s me.”I smiled. “I’m in labor Meek, my water just broke. It’s time for you to meet your son.”
“Are you serious?”He asked excited. “Yo D!” He yelled in the background, cancel the plans for tonight! My little man is on theway!” He said and then spoke back to me. “Keep him in until I get there Kish, I’m on my way.”
“I’ll try Meek.”I said having another contraction. This one made me cry. “Oh, God. Hurry up Meek, I’ll see you there.”
“Don’t cry baby,I’m coming.” He said hanging up.
Victoria lookedat me and smiled. “I think that was very mature of you. Now come on, let’s get my grand baby here.” She said pulling up to the emergency entrance.
The contractions came back-to-backfrom the minute they hooked me up and put me in labor and delivery. The pain was so bad that at four centimeters they had to give me the epidural. That part was over by the time Meek arrived. He walked in wearing a black Tru Religion shirt with the matching jeans. His feet wore some black and white Jordan’s, and his leather bomber covered his arms. He wore his dreads up with a fresh tape and of course he had on his ice. He held a Macy’s bag in one hand and a shit load of balloons in the other.
My heart melted lookingat him; I was floored with love all over me. When he looked at me, it’s like his heart stopped at first, he was stuck. He didn’t know whether to approach me or wait right there. I smiled at him, I knew what he was thinking. “It’s okay, you can come over here.” I held my arms out to hug him.
He putthe stuff down on the table and embraced me wrapping his strong arms around me trying not to get close to my stomach. The chemistry was amazing; it felt like we were whole again.Like two broken hearts was mending. He looked at my stomach and how huge I got. “I got big, I know.”
